I started looking at outdoor entertainment settings. We’ve bought one in the past and we just didn’t utilise it enough to justify buying a new one. The chairs for that setting were thrown away long ago… thanks Toby. Besides, we never really enjoyed sitting around a big table outside as it was normally just the 2 of us. I came to the conclusion I couldn’t do this effectively without bringing Steve into it. I had planned to keep it a secret but I think it’s turned out even better with our combined effort.
I told Steve of my plan. He was excited. I think the word was “Brilliant” followed by a huge grin. We jumped in the car and drove to Bunnings. We found the perfect coffee table setting ($299) and while Steve went and grabbed a trailer to take it home I stayed and pushed my trolley around for ages. I stocked up on some pretty colourful plants, lanterns, potting mix, candles, some shade cloth and cloth nails.
Once we got home we did the clean up. We gutted the place. It felt so good to see all that unnessessary junk outta there. Once that was done we attached the shade cloth. That big tree above the undercover area sheds leaves like there’s no tomorrow and there is a small gap between the roof and the fence. Buy bridging the gap with shade cloth we’ve blocked 90% of the falling leaves from entering. BooYarr. We’ve been meaning to do that since we moved in…
It’s still not completed. It’s 3/4 of the way there. We still have a few finishing touches to make but that will happen over the next few weeks. The whole make over took 4 hours and less than $400. We saved money by buying shade cloth offcuts, seedlings instead of mature plants and looking at alternative options for lighting. We’ve still got more plants to add and a few decorative touches but all in all we’re done and most importantly Steve loves his early xmas present.
