I love the idea. I’m a firm believer in renew & reuse so it fits right up my alley. They look comfortable and less cumbersome than the terry squares. They go in the dryer and aren’t difficult to wash. They come in a range of cool colours and every mother who’s used them swears by them. The downside is they’re expensive. I’m talking a grand just to set up. I know in the long run it will be cheaper, especially if we’re blessed with more children but we don’t qualify for the baby bonus. I can’t write it off using the $5000 as we’re not getting it. It’s a huge outlay.
Do you have MCN? What brand did you invest in? What was your experience, maintainence etc? How many should I buy?
Tried and True. Messy and bulky but not too bad once you get the hang of it. LM and I will be homebodies 80% of the time so I don’t see why it couldn’t work, especially while he’s not crawling. I plan on buying some anyway as spew rags but I’m tempted to see how I go using them as nappies. They’re cheap, helps the environment (as long as I don’s use the dryer too often) and something I think I could do… with effort of course. LM wont be going to daycare, wont have a lot of babysitters and when we do go out we’ll use disposables.
Do you use cloth squares? What’s your experience? The best liners? Do you have a Lil Squirt? How many should I buy?
The easiest option of course is the bin version. No washing (or drying), relatively smell free (diaper genie), easy to use whilst out and about, everyone knows how to use them, good for heavy wetters at night. There are a million great reasons to use disposables, I’m completely open to the idea but there are a few not so great reasons which make me think it’s not the only path I have to choose from. I have time (1st Baby), the facilities available for cloth and I think they could work well in conjunction. I’m a bit stuck on brands though. I’ve hear wonderful things about Mamia form Aldi and from the US the nappy to buy is Pampers, but the flushable ones are quite popular too. I’m lucky as I can ship these kind of things from the states in bulk through hubby’s work.
What brand do you use and why? Have you used flushables? How many did you stock up on before bub arrived?
I’m sure I don’t have to write much more. I’m looking forward to the influx of opinions, experiences and evaluations of cost, not only to the wallet but to the environment. Enlighten me of the mysterious ways of the nappy…
Stay tuned, later in the week we’ll be discussing bottles, dummies and all non-boob feeding apparatuses. Should be fun.
