I think the best Christmas present I’ve bought myself to date is my annual subscription to Real Living magazine. I’m only missing 4 issues in the whole 4 years it’s been going to print. What I love is that it comes to me, out of the blue and perks me right up. Steve knows whenever it arrives that the bath will be occupied for at least an hour. It’s my chill zone and I’m glad it’s going to continue after Little Mezza is born. If I didn’t have my subscription though it might be a different story. I’ll definitely be re-subscribing this year and also possibly to a parenting magazine, just have to decide which one is for me. Any suggestions? One of the articles I fell in love with this issue (due out next week, when you subscribe you get in early!) was a beautifully warm Queenslander done up so well I wanted to move right into the pages. I was so excited I called for Steve to come into the bathroom and drool over it’s awesomeness, even the colour scheme is right up our alley. We’re biding our time to buy our dream home so everything real estate gets us very excited and our imaginations get away from us.
It’s the kitchen that got me. The polished floors, the white chairs with the wooden table, the windows, the paneling… everything. Honestly the only thing I would change is adding a wide country basin.
Another great aspect of the house was the loft beds created for two children. The article goes on to explain that a lot of the pieces in their home was “trash turned into treasure” and I love that and totally get it.
They also made an awesome crafting corner from plywood and Ikea storage boxes. I instantly wanted one of my own. Also loving the washed tins used to hold pencils and scissors. A great place for homework and creative play.
One of the other things I liked about this house was the height of the rooms, so large and airy. In NSW all the houses seem pokey and small and I guess it serves a practical purpose in keeping the warmth but really, how can you beat QLD living? The main bedroom is so elegant yet understated and I love how texture plays a huge part in bringing the room to life. I hope to create a sensual, tonal space like this in our bedroom which should be finished in the next week or two…
