I’ve had one of those pesky “nesting” days today. The laundry is transformed, the bathroom spotless and the studio is perfection. All it cost is some back pain, a tomato sandwich and half a litre of red cordial lol. I’ve had a project lingering at the bottom of my to-do list for awhile and I took the opportunity to cross it off this afternoon.
BEFORE: This wall has been blank forever and I hate it. It’s a large wall and opposite a window that is about the same size so it gets great light. The problem was I had nothing that would look right and despite my best efforts searching Etsy I still couldn’t find something that worked. The room is filled with soft blues, oranges and white. So I decided to make something of my own using Photoshop…
AFTER: This is what I came up with and I’m pretty happy with my efforts. It’s not large or overpowering and has a nice message. The studio now has my computer desk as well as our guest bed squished into one room. Decorating it as a work/play area for me as well as a restful place for travelers has had it’s dramas but I’m happy to report it works quite well now, “Less is More” proves to be the key.
I searched DaFont for a nice font that would match the geometric style of the cushion and then colour-matched the orange of the cushion into Photoshop. I already had a stack of white Ikea frames so I re-used those, of course hanging them with 3M removable hooks. I decided to use a four letter word so the room looked balanced with the four frames above my computer in the same style… LOVE seems just right.
I really love the extra pop of colour on the wall and how the cushion works so well with it against the sandy coloured walls and the blue of the quilt cover. I’m sure our guests will love it too.
I thought I should include some full shots of the room for those new to my studio decorating antics. It really is a tiny room but we seem to make it work. The poster on the wall is an original signed concert poster of Thirsty Merc from a small pub concert back in 2005, in a Ikea frame of course. The cushion was from Target on sale for $2 and I have a matching one in LM’s room. The quilt cover is from Sheridan and I’ve had it for almost 5 years and it’s brilliant and still looks brand new. The bed I purchased off Ebay for $186 and it’s almost an exact replica of our main bedsuite.
