Showering with Aidan is a lot easier on my back than bathing him but we’d never done it alone, unassisted. I figured out the logistics, put out towels, turned the shower on to heat up the room, got his clothes out ready and then enjoyed ourselves. I could have stayed in there all day with him if I wasn’t so afraid of him shriveling into nothing. After a lovely baby massage which Aidan just adores, I popped him in his cot so he could stare at his mobile and chew on his fists whilst I got dressed. Yup, I put clothes on… and a load of washing.
After that I was feeling rather bold and with the fridge staring blankly at me in it’s very bare state I decided we’d go grocery shopping. I can’t drive for another 2 weeks so that cushy option went straight out the window. The stroller is great but the basket isn’t designed for carting home bags of potatoes and the like. I had a brain wave… I could pop Aidan in the Bjorn and drag my trusty granny trolley behind us. Genius.
You know what, it worked like a dream. I usually do our grocery shopping with the granny trolley so I knew everything would fit. I didn’t strain my back carry bags because I dragged it along on wheels. It was great to know I wouldn’t be dependent on the car to get simple things done. Plus I think we looked pretty darn cute. I should also mention it was Aidan’s first time in the Bjorn. What a champ.
When we got home I popped him straight into bed and unpacked all the groceries and sorted the meat. Then I pre-heated the oven and hung out the washing. I’d made plans with Wez to come over and visit last week and for some reason felt the need to bake cupcakes for the occasion. Yummy banana ones with marshmallow Frangipani flowers on top. I used a packet mix but I still felt pretty darn accomplished. Once that was done it was time for his next feed.
After a nice full belly and some lovely snuggles and fart smiles Aidan went back off to sleep and I got some blog time. It was nice to have some uninterupted time to write his birth story. Before I knew it Steve was home and Aidan was ready for his next feed. Once fed and burped I passed him over to his eager Daddy and went outside to bring in the washing. I was enjoying the sunshine so much I also mulched the garden beds as our house inpection is on Thursday. Mum totally transformed our backyard (will share in another post) and mulching was the only thing left to do.
When I got back inside Steve had already put Aidan down and after a cuddle and talking about our days I went and had a sleep before dinner. I woke up to Aidan kindly requesting his next feed and dinner on the table. After a bit of TV and lots of snuggles he was put down again and then we were all off to bed. I really couldn’t have asked for a better first day.
Today we’re chilling out at home in our PJ’s and napping until Wez arrives at 4… I’m all about balance 😉
