I’d like to say it was difficult, that we should never have left home, that it screwed up his routine but it wasn’t, I’m glad we did and it didn’t. I thought traveling with a baby would mean extra work and take out all the fun, but to be honest he enhanced everything. Sure, as I mentioned previously popping the girls out on crowed public transport wasn’t a breeze but I did it and we managed… Go us! It was of course only a short trip to visit the in-laws and show off Aidan. I’d heard plenty of horror stories and witnessed first hand the babies screaming upon take off and landing. My own ears play up and cause me quite a lot of pain so I was anxious about how Aidan would cope. Turns out he didn’t care one little bit. He was awake for both take off and landing and didn’t make a peep. He just happily sucked his dummy. Steve and I were so proud and Steve’s now convinced he has what it takes to be a pilot lol.
The buckle is ridiculously huge and I couldn’t believe babies as young as Aidan have to wear something like it, especially when he can’t even sit up. I was instructed to take him out of his sling when I got on the plane. To be quite honest, the sling (or a bjorn) would make more sense during an emergency but I did what I was told.
After take off Aidan was due for a sleep so we popped him in his Woombie and off he went whilst still buckled up. He didn’t make a single peep whilst on the plane and everyone kept admiring him and saying how perfect he was. I’m sure they would have been singing a different tune had he been grizzly.
After the plane we had to catch the bus to the train station. Feeding a baby on a squishy bus wasn’t fun but we got the job done. I love that Steve is so hands-on with Aidan, he picks up his cues as well as I do. He really did relish the time away together.
After the bus was a 2 hour train ride to Moe where Steve’s family lives. Steve had a great time pointing out all the cows and places from his youth. It took all day to get there, but we did and in one piece.
The motel we stayed in was tiny (as motels are) but it had everything we needed. The king sized bed didn’t hurt either. We did arrange for a cot in the room but it looked ancient and we felt more comfortable having him in bed with us even though it’s not something we do at home. Visiting the family went well and of course everyone simply adored Aidan. Photos of that to follow…
