On Saturday Steve and I took Aidan to the Caravan & Camping Expo held in Rosehill. It was massive and took us over 5 hours to get through it all. I wasn’t as keen as Steve to go but I bundled Aidan up, along with all his stuff and off we went. As soon as we got there I was enjoying it as much as Steve. We always joked that when the kids left home we’d travel around Australia with our trusty caravan, but walking around that expo we realised we wouldn’t have to wait that long, in fact it might be even more fun if we took the kids while they were little.
It didn’t take us long to figure out what style of adventure was for us. We looked at the rugged 4WD camper trailers, the elite caravans with all the trimmings and even the idea of pitching a tent… but what sung out to us the most was the simplicity of the Camper Trailers. Half tent, half caravan. Modestly priced, easier to tow, modern convenience and felt like a home away from home as soon as we stepped inside.
We looked as several different models from different makers but we instantly fell for the Jayco Dove. I found myself trying to reason why we didn’t need a camper trailer but the more I tried the more reasons I felt that we did need it. There was plenty of space and I liked the layout of the kitchen. Steve and I left the expo with a bag full of pamphlets and a dream. A dream that our weekends wouldn’t just be spent mowing the lawns and watching crappy TV, that we’d show our son the world and all the experiences it has to offer. To get out there and do it all. From whale watching on the south coast, to sunning it up in Cairns. Visiting in-laws in Moe, to catching up with friends in Mildura. Trips along the Great Ocean road and up to the Gold Coast to put our toes in the warm sand. We will be the weekend nomads!
