Puppies

This is Aidan's favourite area to play in during the day. The big windows overlook the back yard and he can watch the puppies (AKA: Toby & Charlie) playing in the backyard. When they run about the yard and tackle each other, I swear you could hear Aidan's laughter from down the street. While he might not be big enough to rough and tumble with them yet, he does like sitting out in the back yard on my lap and pats Charlies head and tries to throw Toby a ball. They love him too and always keep a ... [ Discover More ]

Away We Go

It was a Tuesday night and Steve was working late. My local video store had a $1.50 overnight movie deal so I headed down there to see what was new. I'm drawn to smaller art house films, the less advertising the more I want to watch it. I get curious.I fell in love with this movie from the very first scene. The movie was funny, sad, endearing and thoughtful. It was dignified and well written. It's one of those movies I could watch over and over again. Actually I intend to buy it and go just ... My Place & Yours

This weeks theme is "Where you sleep" and since I was already being sneaky and typing away in bed I thought I'd play along. This is me after a full day out (mothers group) and Aidan's just gone down for a nap. I'm comfy under the covers, I'd just called my bestie Rhi and I'm about to read my newest copy of Practical Parenting. I'm not feeling well so I feel that blogging in bed is totally justifiable and maybe even better for my health... well that's what I'll say if Steve catches me doing it ... [ Discover More ]

Sleep baby, sleep

I read all the books, I thought I had prepared myself mentally for some of the challenges that a new baby and being a first time mother would bring. I knew my baby would always be in bed by 7pm. I knew that I wouldn't sleep with him in my bed. I knew that I wouldn't rock him to sleep. I knew I would love to let him fall asleep on me but I would stay strong and make him learn to sleep in his cot. That is how it's meant to be done, that's what we've been taught is the right way. There is no right ... [ Discover More ]

Freedom

So, I'm sitting on the couch, tip typing away on my brand new toy... a 13" 2.66 GHz Mac Book Pro. It all started with a conversation late at night in bed about my new career, what stage I'm at and where I want to go. Steve is my greatest sounding board for ideas and together we sculpt the bigger picture. I love that part of our marriage. He's never dismissive and always supportive. Sometimes I think he believes in me more than I do. I'm getting things in motion because I've booked a few family ... [ Discover More ]

Reoccuring Dream

I always looked forward to growing up, all the while believing that I was older than my years and knew everything there was to know about everything. I turn 25 soon and I'm married, I have a beautiful baby, I live in a beautiful home, I have good friends and I eat good food. Why is it that I feel I still need more?Since Aidan came into our lives I've never been more driven. A part of SATC2 rang clear as a bell to me. Miranda and Charlotte are talking about motherhood and Miranda says ... [ Discover More ]

Vacant

Aidan in Steve's Hot Spur soccer gear. I needed to take a step back and breathe. Slowly my little bitty blog is becoming a business of sorts and whilst it's a wonderful, wonderful thing... it got to a point where I piled so much onto my to do list that I double booked myself, was constantly late, forgot things, got headaches, so on the weekend I developed a complete aversion to the computer. Aidan and I on the couch.I didn't check my email. I didn't call anyone. I just slept as much as I ... [ Discover More ]

Chalk it Up

I didn't plan on buying a chalkboard decal, it just kind of happened and in the strangest of places too... GoLo. It only set me back $10 and I love it. I put it on my back/front door and it's awesome. It totally jazzes up my entry way. I'm almost tempted to put on on every door of the house... almost. ... [ Discover More ]

My Place & Yours

I have many treasures in my life that I could talk about but I'm going to share a material treasure with you instead. This is a photo of my dressing table or aptly named, vanity. It's one of my favourite features of our bedroom. When I moved in with Steve many moons ago, he bought me a second hand dressing table as a gift. It was second hand, well loved and vintage but the draws always stuck, the mirror was low line and very awkward, but I loved it. Eventually we upgraded our bedroom suite and ... [ Discover More ]

Baby Gate

Aidan thought it was very exciting when we put the baby gates up, blocking off the kitchen from his busy little hands. It was one more thing he could climb. Steve and I weren't too thrilled about the extra hurdle (one of us always managed to walk into it at night) but knew it was necessary to keep Aidan out of harms way.He thinks he's very clever when he pulls himself up to standing, hands gripping the bars and singing really loud and proud. He watches us in the kitchen and just enjoys being ... [ Discover More ]

PHOTOSHOOT: Burke Family

Last weekend I had the happy opportunity to take photographs of a gorgeous family. I can't begin to tell you how excited and nervous I was. I've never had to coordinate so many subjects for a shoot before, let alone 3 kids. Thankfully the day was perfection and so was everyone's behaviour. The time flew by and my camera was filled with lovely images...The famiy wanted casual, naturally lit photographs which was exactly my style. I showed the client the polished photos on Friday and she gushed ... [ Discover More ]

Wiggly Monster

When I was pregnant I vowed I wouldn't let my child watch TV until he was 2 years old... I lasted 8 months. He just gets so much joy from it. I limit him to half an hour a day, usually just after breakfast. He loves to dance and sing, I have quite the little performer on my hands. We used to watch ABC2 but the shows seemed a lot older in the timeslot that we watch TV in.So I bought a Wiggles DVD.It's my own fault really, what did I think was going to happen! All that colour, music and dancing, ... [ Discover More ]

Milk Toofs

{blog} Aidan is teething and it's hardcore around here, five more teeth in the last two weeks. He's irritable, cranky, sore, sookie and on top of all that he's got a never ending flu. His gum's, my furniture and my stamina are feeling the brunt of it. I should admit it's not all bad, he's not banging his head against the wall in tormented agony, he's just suffering major mood swings. One minute he's a happy laughing little boy the next second he's grinding his gum's and trying to chew... well, ... [ Discover More ]

Miracle

I planned on taking photos of a beautiful family on the weekend but the horrible Sydney rain was forecast to ruin the it and the rest of my week. The family was disappointed and so was I. When I woke on Saturday morning the sun was shining and it continued to do so all day. The light was perfect, the kids were happy and I was in my groove. It really did feel like a miracle.Play along with Fat Mum Slim ... [ Discover More ]

My Little Pixie

I don't like Pixie Photos. I know I'm not alone, but I also know that a lot of people get them done. I too was duped, sucked in by the FREE photo coupon in my Bounty Bag. It was luring me with it's free-ness. It would be a waste not to use it, I told myself, the family would like them. So a girlfriend and I bundled up our boys and took them to have their photos taken... because you know, everyone got one in their Bounty Bags at the hospital.I decided I was going to stay strong and ONLY get ... Party Planning

Aidan is quickly coming up to his first birthday and as scary as that is, it's even scarier that nothing has been organised. Some of the mothers on my online forum have been planning for months. There are so many different ways we could celebrate our awesome little dude, Jungle Theme, Polka Dot Theme, Monster Theme, but I seem to be leaning more towards the theme "Less is More".{blog}My first thought was that we'd have to have this huge party, almost as big as our wedding and I just wasn't up ...
