I’m feeling stifled by my studio, does that ever happen to you? If your workspace doesn’t reflect your style, the creative juices just don’t flow and the clutter (ahem, I mean “storage”) starts to build up and it just becomes to distracting to work/create there… well that’s where my studio is at at the moment. I’m too embarrassed to even take a photo.
We rent a three bedroom home: our room, Aidan’s room and the Studio which also acts as a guestroom. We did have a lovely queen slat bed in there until it broke and now we have the mattress up against the wall and lay it on the floor when Mum comes to stay… thank goodness it’s a great mattress. It has a function and does get used but when I enter the studio it’s like nails on a chalkboard every time I look at it, is it crazy to be this bothered by a mattress? I really want to get a sofa bed chair that converts to a single bed, I think it will solve my biggest issue with the room. I’d love your recommendations…
Storage is now another big problem. Since launching the business I’ve somehow managed to accumulate a lot of paper. Card stock, sticker paper, printer paper, CD label stickers, receipts, invoices, client info, marketing material, etc etc etc. I like things to belong somewhere and right now there’s just not enough draws or cupboard space. I also need some baskets to store all my blankets, throws and other photo props that I quickly seem to be accumulating.
Another thing the office is in desperate need of is a place to keep all my camera gear. Its starting to get a little scary, how much I have. I’ve kept every camera and lens I’ve ever owned as well as my great Uncle’s collection I was given, not to mention tripods, extra bags, cleaning tools, muslin backdrops, clamps, backdrop frame and lighting equipment… like I said, scary. I like the idea of a lockable cabinet so Aidan’s sticky little fingers can’t get into it and everything would be in the one place.
I got fed up and started looking at options and made this storyboard using Ikea items as my budget for a revamp is severely limited as all my funds go straight back into the business. Next week I need to buy yet another camera bag as my D700 doesn’t fit in anything except my big bulky backpack. I want to buy these ones, Lowepro Rolling Case, Shootsac Lens Bag and a Kelly Moore Bag. If you have any camera bag recommendations I love to hear them.
Storyboard Items: Chair Bed, Cushion, Cabinet, Draws, Floor Lamp, Pendant, Large Basket, Small Baskets, Message Board, Promo Frames, Square Frames, Paper Boxes, Throw, Toy Cars.
What is your workspace like? How do you wish it looked?
