My City Chic Posts

The last three months that I've been writing for City Chic have gone by so fast and I realised a common know truth first hand, if I do what I love, it wont ever feel like work and boy, do I love it. I've connected with so many people and received so many touching emails that have actually brought me to tears. I feel like I can make a difference within the size 14+ fashion market and be an advocate for positive body image. Call me deluded if you like, I just call myself a proactive dreamer. The ... Protect your Peepers

As I mentioned in the post below, I'm getting desperate for a pair of sunglasses. Last night whilst I was at Castle Towers I wandered into a store and these babies caught my eye. Now usually my sunnies are of the $30 variety but a few years ago I splashed out and bought a $70 pair by Fiorelli... my eye were like, totally pimped out man!I couldn't fathom the idea of spending hundreds on sunnies that would get thrown around in my handbag or even worse, lost. But my Fiorelli's lasted four times as ... [ Discover More ]

5 Minute Fashion

Imagine you have the chance to win your entire online shopping cart but you only had 5 minutes to fill it. Where would you shop? What would you buy? How quick could you be? I'm still yet to purchase any clothing from ASOS but I window shop there all the time and I thought this little experiment would be fun. This is what I can up with:1: Rainbow Hitch Dress 2: Vintage Prom Dress 3: Print Asymmetric Dress 4: Knitted Dress5: Belted Tshirt Dress 6: Chiffon Kaftan Dress 7: 3/4 Sleeve Maxi Dress 8: ... Ugly Dress + Scissors = Cute Top

I bought this dress from Best & Less, it's in the Lily & Lou range, I bought it on clearance for a few dollars. I really liked the floral pattern and the ultra light cotton fabric was so soft. The large scoop neckline is flattering on me and I even loved the sleeves but after wearing it as a dress for 30 minutes the dress lost it's shape and turned into a dreaded muumuu. I tried wearing it with a belt but it still looked saggy and I just ended up wearing it around the house. I decided to ... [ Discover More ]

Secret Women’s Business

Last week I had to go an see my gynecologist. It seems most women involuntarily flinch when they hear the words "Pap Smear" or "Gyno". I mean who could blame us, it's never a pleasant experience and definitely not something to write home to your parents about but it IS something we should all be doing every two years and I cannot stress this enough. When I was 17 I had my first pap smear and when the results came back I had CIN3, lots of biopsies over several years (and lots of tears) ... [ Discover More ]

Meat Eater

Sponsored by Nuffnang & MLAAs most of you know we started Aidan on solids early, around 5 months and it worked out well. We wanted him to try everything and Steve and I agreed that we'd make sure anything we ate, was something that he could eat too. This totally changed our diet for the better and while we still have a few snacks, they only come out if we're entertaining or he's napping. We're a "Meat & 3 Veg" family, usually lots of steamed vegetables or fresh salads with different ... [ Discover More ]

Need for a Nanny

{image}I never thought I'd be looking for a nanny. Not once did it ever come up in conversation with Steve before we had Aidan, neither did the idea of putting our "kids" into childcare, it just wasn't for us. I planned to stay home and Steve planned to work. Over the last six months my mindset started to change. I missed the challenges and relationships you find in the workplace, I missed using my brain for more than reciting nursery rhymes and remembering the last time I took him to the potty. ... Cranky Face

I've posted a lot of adorable photos of Aidan. He's always smiling, showing off a cheeky grin and his eyes are all sparkly... but today, today I wanted to give you a glimpse of his cranky face. The dude is only small but he knows how to throw a tantrum like a fully certified diva... and it makes me giggle inside every single time. ... [ Discover More ]

Stack ‘em Up

Aidan and I spend a lot of time playing,  working on his motor skills and some wicked belly laughs. Even though my to-do list seems to be multiplying by the millisecond, it's time with my son I wouldn't trade for anything. With Steve having so much time off over Christmas he's been able to see what we get up during the day.On a weekday, Steve only really gets to hang out with Aidan in the afternoons and sometimes this can be a cranky affair, he really is his best in the morning. They spend ... [ Discover More ]

Totally Floored

Who knew the hunt for a swimsuit and prancing about in next to nothing, showing off my chubby bits would have such an effect on people! The response to Embrace Your Body has been monumentally positive and shared right across the globe, the stats are truly staggering. Never in my dreams did I think such a simple post would resonate with so many people. I've been glued to my computer sharing and linking, re-tweeting and replying to everyone who contacts me, I'm so totally and unbelievably ... Boy VS Mumma

I've been working a lot lately, gearing up for the next few months of craziness, trying to be as prepared as possible. I try not to work when Aidan's awake, I like our time together to be proactive, to learn new things and go to new places but there are some days when laundry beckons as does my inbox and I'm a boring mumma... one of those days was today. Steve had a long list of outside duties to accomplish and it was too hot and too dangerous for Aidan to join him, none of our friends were ... [ Discover More ]

Embrace Your Body

I've been debating this post for well over a week now but I'm determined to do it... mainly for myself. I've been looking for swimmers for the last couple of months. I've stalked plus size forums and blogs for recommendations but nothing really seemed like me and the pieces that did were usually over $200 and I just don't have that kind of money to part with at the moment so like most frugal ladies I checked out eBay and found a gem... one I want to share it with you, in all my cellulite filled ... Shootsac

It arrived!!! While Shootsac had a pretty good deal on over the holidays I snapped up one of my very own. I didn't get a fancy cover as there were none that really "spoke" to me but they release new ones every few months or so. It's not an everyday bag, well not while I only have just the one lens! Now I just have to pick which camera bag I'm going to buy, the Kelly Boy or the Juju...Oh and for those who aren't following me on facebook you might have missed out on some info about my gorgeous new ... Psychic

I think I must be slightly psychic or just really really lucky that Pantone's Colour of the Year is Honeysuckle, a rich pink that I adore. Although I'm not usually a pink kind of girl I do love wearing it and I get lots of compliments when I do. I know a lot of the chain stores will be selling items in the shade so I'll have to stock up while it's available. It inspired me to throw a few outfits together for the hell of it and I wanted to share. If you want info on specific pieces click ... [ Discover More ]

Couch Shopping with a Toddler

Yesterday Steve and I bundled Aidan into the car and headed off to King Furniture at their Castle Hill showroom. By the time we got there we only had half an hour to potter around and plonk out butts on everything. Aidan was a terror and it surprised me, he's usually really good while we're out but I think going in the lift and on the escalators pushed him over the edge of excitement. The young sales assistant didn't know what to think and was pretty flustered the entire time.Steve and I juggled ... [ Discover More ]

Baby No More

I wanted to take you on a little tour of Aidan's room today, just a brief run through of the little changes we've made to his space. The first thing you notice is the safety gate, completely necessary now that Aidan's moved to the toddler bed.Every time his room evolves I give myself a little pat on the back for not having a baby-ish theme to the room. Choosing the bold bright colours has made the transition pretty seamless and all his brightly coloured toys look like they belong. Chosing white ... [ Discover More ]
