It started with a tweet. A PR company tweeted that they had a few tickets to giveaway to bloggers if they were interested so I emailed them and said “Yes Please!”. I didn’t know what my chances would be like but seconds later I got an email saying they’d pop two tickets in the post for me and a friend.
I invited along the lovely Caitlin from Closet Confessions for a few hours of shopping fun and VIP treatment. She’d been to the Melbourne Fashion Weekend and said it wasn’t great so we were really hoping to be impressed and I’m happy to report that we were!
Tempus Two had set up a little VIP area where we could sample wines, nibble on antipasto platters and meet other members of the media. It was also where we picked up our big silver bag of freebies packed full of awesome goodies.
I only managed to sip down half a glass of a delicious Tempus Two Chardonnay before I was given a fortune cookie which said “With lower standards you will achieve more“. I have to say Confucius, I tend to disagree. With that in mind I asked someone in an official Tshirt if Caitlin and I could possibly get our hands on two tickets to see the 7pm runway show… for free. “Of Course!” she said and scurried off and came back with the tickets in her hot little hands.
Me, trying to be nonchalant like everyone else sitting in the front row of the runway. So proper, so demure, so full of themselves… so boring!
Here’s a snapshot of how you should look at a fashion show! Happy, wet-your-pants-excited with a big grin plastered on your face. Caitlin and I were the only larger women there who were under the age of 45 so we got a few stares… but I bet they were just jealous of our totally cute outfits and our super awesome seats.
Everyone is seated and waiting for the fun to begin. It’s going to get a bit photo heavy now but I know you love it. It was so thrilling to take photos, all the lighting changes made it challenging but in a good way. I desperately wished I had a 70-200mm 2.8 lens but I have a few more pennies to save up before I can afford it.
I love this one. The soft lilac colour, the lace hems and the beautiful yoke. I want need this in my size.
Another beautiful black lace piece that could easily be adapted for a larger lady.
Caitlyn and I both agreed we would live in these pants during summer.
Caitlyn fell in love with this ensemble… can you blame her!
I wanted this. I think everyone in the whole room wanted this. Beautiful.
As soon as I saw this I could see my friend Rhi wearing it. I adore it.
Patterned metallic pants anyone?
My favourite shot. The colours are awesome together and I really want to replicate the combination.
I thought of my friend Danielle who lives in Darwin when I saw this, she could so pull it off.
I literally gasped when I saw this one… divine!
Maxi Dresses + Blazers = AWESOME
I LOVED this. It would be so easy to dress up or down.
Labels on the Catwalk: Little Joe Woman, Natasha, Fleur Wood, Arabella Ramsay, Woodford and Co, Miss Unkon, Life with Bird, Something Else, Nookie, Cohen et Sabine, Nicola Finetti, Shakuhachi.
Shoes & Accessories: Melissa Australia, PeepToe, Estilo Emporio.
Everyone clapped and then rushed out the door so they could keep shopping before the doors shut at 9pm. I would seriously recommend setting aside at least 3 hours and an hour more if you’re going to see a show.
After the runway show was done and dusted Caitlin and I looked around the pavilion at all the stalls and attractions. Everyone was really nice and helpful and it was pretty easy to navigate your way between the displays. There were also plenty of sales desks so you didn’t have to wait to look to buy your goodies.
Peeptoe shoes was first on the list for both of us, we love the brand. My feet are a little too wide for the shoes unfortunately but I did managed to get my hands on a lovely bracelet I’d been coveting.
I love them so much I could cry. Damn my wide feet.
I left Caitlin trying on shoes and did a quick walk around, snapping passers by without them noticing.
I fell in love with this stall so much I plan on heading out to their store in the very near future.
SO ME!
Look at all those lovely statement necklaces **swoon**
They even had a Hill Hoist as a necklace display! CUTE!
Pretty embellished tanks and other girlie tid-bits.
Tony&Guy had a blow dry station set up. You could get a lovely fresh blow dry for only $15, I know they always make me feel like a million bucks so in my mind it’s a sound investment.
If all my nail colours were by essie I would be one happy girl. Those who play Polly Dolly every Thursday would know that I feature them a lot because I really, truly adore them. Each colour is $19 but if you paid $20 you got a mini manicure as well! Unfortunately I only made my way there just before closing so I missed out so if you plan on going to the Fashion Weekend tomorrow I suggest you make your way there first.
The stalls were closed and we were being ushered out so we stopped for a second to capture the moment… and what we were wearing. Caitlin is wearing a lovely dress from ASOS, I loved all the detailing. In the bags are so many pairs of shoes… pity my feet are bigger than hers so I can’t borrow them.
Like I said, I only bought one bracelet and bought a little something for my sister so no big bags swinging of my arm. I’m wearing my lovely faux fur cardigan, high waisted skinny jeans, ruffle top, metallic bangles and ring, all from City Chic. I’m also wearing the most comfortable gold metallic flats sent to me as a gift from the lovely Amanda and necklace from the Alex Perry collection for Diva.
Between the Tempus Two VIP section, the runway show and making my way around to all the stores to take photographs there wasn’t much time for me to shop. I met a lot of lovely stall holders (and some not so nice) and got to hang out with Caitlin. Even though I didn’t fit any of the fashions I did find a lot of beautiful accessories which were totally worth the trip. It was a really fun night and if you don’t have anything planned I suggest you go and have a look. Check out the Fashion Weekend website for more details.
TIP: If you want to take photos, ASK FIRST or be prepared with a business card like I was.

Oh dude. In the words of Rachel Zoe, I DIE. Why the hell am I stuck here and not living in Sydney where I could be your fashion sidekick? So funny, I stopped on the dress you had mentioned me on! Just gorgeous. And you, my dear, look like one foxy mamma. One last thing- You are getting seriously good at fashion photography xx
Times like these make me miss living in Sydney!! Looks like so much fun!
For me? Oooh excited
No way am i hip enough to attend an event like that, and living in a rural area i'll probably never have the chance… but how i'd love to do something like that! I think my favourite dress was the green racerback with the flared skirt. No way could i pull it off but i thought it was gorgeous!
Cute little hills hoist!
What a great event! Looked very nice- glad you had fun!
I love all your photos, especially of the runway :)
Wishing I lived in Sydney right now!! Btw, are you still doing Tony Ferguson? You're looking good in that bottom photo!!
I have a little blog post request if you're interested. As a 1st time pregnant lady (and feeling a little clueless and overwhelmed!) I was wondering if you would do a post on what you found helpful and actually used when Aidan was a newborn e.g equipment-wise or advice-wise!! Since you've got the benefit of experience and hindsight now it would be soooo helpful!!
Your photos are awesome Dani. You've come a long way since snapping pics of feet in high school. :-P
I love love love that dress, where do I buy it?
Looked great! So jealous!
