The Mezza’s are sick, we all have the lurgy. We’ve been hiding at home, emptying tissue boxes and driving each other crazy so I thought we should get out of the house and get takeaway for dinner as we still had a couple more Malaysian Kitchen places to try out. We rugged up as best we could and headed of for a drive.
We drove to Castle Towers, the major shopping center in Castle Hill to try Taste of Malaya, nestled between all the nice restaurants next to the cinema. Steve had declared that we would be getting takeaway for fear of scaring the other patrons and I agreed, we were one sickly looking bunch.
The restaurant was modern, bright and the service was really friendly and helpful. I should also mention that there were plenty of high chairs for kids too. We arrived at 5pm so there wasn’t many people and you could easily hold group functions there with the amount of space they had. I placed our order and then we wandered off to explore whilst our food cooked.
It was so nice to get out of the house, even if it was just to get food. It takes just over half an hour each way to get to Castle Towers but we didn’t mind, we were getting cabin fever at home and Aidan loves nothing more than long drives and singing along to the radio. While we waited for our food Aidan found the arcade games at the cinema and was content pretending to race his father, sound effects included.
Our food was ready and we didn’t even manage to get halfway to the car before Aidan started demanding his share. We strapped him in and let the little monster eat his fill of Roti, the Malaysian bread he’s fallen in love with. It was really nice and crispy, less oily than the ones from Mamak last week. The curry sauce was delicious but Aidan was content to eat it plain.
We made it home in record speed and laid our banquet out on the table. I felt ridiculous ordering so much but I really wanted to try a few new things as well as munch out on my new favourites. This could easily feed four or more people, I know this because two serves are in takeaway containers in my fridge for tomorrow. I ordered:
- Nasi Lemak $12.50: Not so great, I wouldn’t order it again.
- King Prawn Laksa $14.80: Nice, Steve ended up eating most of it.
- Nasi Goreng $12.50: Tasted more like Special Fried Rice, Mamak’s was WAY nicer.
- House Ayam $15.50: Char Grilled chicken with satay sauce, better than the satays.
- Satay Skewers (4) $9.50: Very sweet, not overcooked. Preferred the House Ayam.
- Roti Malaya Bread $3.00: Brilliant, really yummy.
As you can see Aidan was pretty excited when he saw it all out on the table… and then proceeded to only eat peanut butter on toast for dinner after eating a couple of spoonfuls of rice and loudly declaring he didn’t want anymore. Normally he’d be right into it but he’s sick and we just went with the flow. I don’t think we’d go back to Taste of Malaya purely because Temasek is so much closer and ticked all our boxes. Before we left I popped next door to B&R for some over indulgent dessert, a take home pack of “Love Potion”, “Pralines & Cream” and “Chocolate Peanut Butter”. All the snotty monsters were satisfied.
