Summer used to make me nervous. I loved winter, the security of black tights, loose dresses and lots of layers meant I didn’t have to worry about how white my skin was, how pudgy my thighs got or how hairy my legs were. Summer basically means I have to do the exact opposite. I have to shave or wax my hairy legs, I have to put the tights away and opt for lighter clothes and fabrics. This year I feel good about summer, excited even and I can’t wait for days in the sun, caramel skin and shimmery kaftans.
While I enjoyed the spray tan I got for the swimwear photoshoot (published on the blog this Friday!) I just don’t think they are for me on a long term basis. It took forever for it to set and dry and in that time I couldn’t do much at all. I’m still keen to try Benefit Cosmetics Spray Booth though, I just have to make time to get into the city, either way I don’t see it being a long term commitment for me.
I’d been discussing gradual tanning lotions with my girl Rhi and she swears by Garnier Body Summer and I’d read a lot of reviews online and decided that next time I was at the shops I’d buy a bottle. I don’t shop at pharmacies, coles or woolies very often so when we went to do our fortnightly shop at Aldi yesterday and there in the “special buys” area was Lacura’s very own gradual tanning lotion (400ml, $4.99) as well as a whole pile of loofas and even a SPF30+ daily facial moisturiser (60ml, $8.99)… now I call that winning! I love a few of the Lacura products, you can watch the video here.
The Summer Firming Body Lotion has a really sweet smell to it, goes on really light and isn’t greasy. It doesn’t have any SPF but I’m ok with that as I’d most likely wear the Nivea Light over the top anyway. I actually bought two bottles of the stuff (for under $10!!!) as I was worried I might run out and they wouldn’t have it in stock anymore. There are two formulations, one for Fair to Normal which is what I chose as well as a Normal to Dark… I’m aiming for normal, summer kissed skin.
The Lacura Daily Defence SPF30+ doesn’t smell very “pretty”, just like a soft smelling sunscreen whereas the Summer lotion smelt yummy. The formulation is quite thin and one pump is more than enough to cover your face and neck. It’s not greasy and absorbs quite quickly, I’d be happy to wear it underneath my make up. I’ll be keeping it next to my toothbrush in the bathroom so I remember to put it on everyday. I think for the price it’s pretty good and it should last awhile. I can see both of these products being included into the everyday range of Lacura products and if not Aldi can expect a letter in the mail.
