That’s what New Years is all about isn’t it, the chance to start anew, to set and reach new goals, to de-clutter, to refocus. The possibility of new love, new life experiences and renewed hope. As my ever cynical husband said “It’s just a day like any other” and in a physical sense he’s completely right but to me and a lot of other people around the world NYE is magical. A time to focus on yourself, your aspirations, your baggage, your dreams. In the last week I’ve been doing a little “inner workshopping” and de-cluttering the house, I feel lighter, more energised and excited yet at the same time, strangely calm.
I have two new years resolutions, the first of which is to give up coke. I’ve done it before, for three years I was on the straight and narrow, then after Aidan was born I got stressed and leaned back on my old crutch. It was so easy to slip as it’s everywhere you look and with all the social engagements I had in 2011 it reinstated itself as my go-to beverage.
It’s actually a little bit sad and pathetic that I have to quit a drink but I know it’s something I have to do for me… even though I did have my name up in Coke lights once on the giant sign at Kings Cross. Monica is going to help me kick the habit and keep me accountable when we’re out and about together with the boys, at least until my “will power muscle” is a bit stronger.
The second is even more mediocre, I’m going to have breakfast everyday… I know, ground breaking stuff here people. To keep myself accountable I’m going to instagram my breakfast everyday, to see all my breakfast nom noms follow the hashtag #dailybreakfast on twitter.
I stepped into 2012, one glittery toed foot after the other and it felt good. I’m hoping that this year will be filled with special family moments, see career aspirations fulfilled, involve lots of travel and many laughs and smiles. Thank you for following my journey so far and hope you’re there to hold my hand over the next twelve months… it’s going to be a wild ride I can tell!
