After spending 6 days on Hamilton Island drinking cocktails, eating ice cream and lazing about on the beach, once I got back home I was dying to get onto some sort of physical activity. My body was craving it, and I decided to wear my Beautiful Buttocks tights in Royal Blue to help motivate me on my run!
I was aiming to either repeat my performance of 11kms a couple of weeks ago or to improve on it, but the holidays had taken their toll and I found myself out of breath and struggling to make the 9km mark. Once I get back into my stride I’ll be hitting the 12km mark hopefully in a few weeks.
Now that daylight savings has finished, I find that the only time I get to run outdoors is on the weekend, so during the week I’m keeping my fitness levels up by using either the elliptical trainer or stepper at home, or a Jillian Michaels workout. I’m thinking of throwing Zumba for the Wii in too, just to mix it up a bit!
I’m 36 weeks pregnant so I haven’t really gone to the gym as much as I planned. We’re renovating our house at the moment, trying to get Brock’s room, the nursery and our entire second level including our laundry completed before the new baby arrives. Sometimes naps are much more important plus I’m working on the weekends to make a bit of extra cash. Brock keeps me on my toes too, I’m always chasing, playing or cleaning up.
Even though the weather hasn’t been that great lately I still try and make time to go for a walk, sometimes if I’m lucky Brock will get in the stroller. Usually we walk around town combining a light cardio workout with paying bills and ducking into Aldi for nappies or bread.
My belly has really popped out in the last two weeks and now the Bali Yoga top (that I’ve practically lived in) isn’t long enough anymore and my bump peeks out. Thankfully the Culottes have a nice wide comfy waist band than I can pull up and keep myself covered.
They’re both so comfy that I can definitely see myself wearing them after the baby is born and the top is loose enough that breastfeeding in it wouldn’t be a challenge. I kind of can’t wait to get back into the gym and run on the treadmill again, to push myself and clear my head. For now though I’m happy to take it easy, work out at my own pace when I feel up to it and get the house ready for the big arrival.
Happy Exercise all! I wanted to show you how I exercise seeing as I am taking all the photos on my phone by myself I wasn’t too keen on asking people to take photos of me skating as I’m still so slow I wouldn’t be able to catch them if they ran away. I got out my trusty phone which I listen to the radio on while skating and tried very discretely to not look like I was taking photos of myself on the beach. In the photos I’m wearing the Bali Yoga top in Red from Female for Life along with my Beautiful Buttocks pants in Red.
After trying out both this Red set and my Blue set I feel I much prefer a tighter fitting top as the Bali Yoga swished around a bit to much while skating. I like the detail of the coloured tubes but I think I’m inclined to want to sew them in place as they moved around a bit while skating. I love the fabric and the feel and it came out of the wash still in shape so you have to be happy with that.
I LOVE the Beautiful Buttocks pants, they are supportive, my arse doesn’t stick out the top, the fabric is thick enough not to see VPL or actually see my underwear like my el cheapo tights I normally wear (I didn’t know I swear!) I also appreciate the thickness of the waist band as that’s where I stick my phone and it doesn’t try to slip out. Like Danielle I have big beautiful calves and so I find that I do have to pull down the legs from time to time to stop them rolling up to my knee but that doesn’t bother me too much, the joys of being family.
Over all I like both pieces, I’ll do more of my walking in the Bali Yoga top but both the Beautiful Buttocks and Love my Bum are great for skating, so I would say cycling and running would be suited to these as well. I wonder where my clothing workout adventure will take me to next time!
Work seems to be piling up and I can’t quite seem to shake the notion that I’m falling behind schedule and I know that feeling always grips me tighter to the computer, excuses not to exercise are easier to make in the name of productivity. It’s been hard to remind myself that I’m more important than a deadline, that my responsibilities I have to myself are just as important as the ones I have to others. What I really needed wasn’t to miss out on a hard sweaty physical session but to manage my time better. I asked Steve if he would be my blog manager… he said he valued our marriage too much to do so. Fair enough.
Steve comes home in the afternoon and he sits and has his coffee while we talk about our day, bills, Aidan etc it’s kind of like our daily staff meeting. Usually just before dinner I duck off and go for a swim or pound it out on the treadmill. It’s nice to come home and see that the boys have enjoyed their alone time and that dinner is ready and waiting to be dished out, perfect with all the cold weather we’ve been having. It seems our new little routine is working out well for everyone, who knew it would be this easy!?
I bought my new shoes almost straight away, I figured Havianas wouldn’t really cut it at the gym. They’re so comfortable that I’ve turned into one of those mums that wear them with almost everything. They’re my mum shoes. I wore them on a recent trip to the Zoo from 9am until 10pm and at the end of the day my feet and calves weren’t caning, it still felt like I was walking on clouds. Something tells me they wont be very good for fashion week though.
In the first week I was pretty gung-ho about it all, check me out all sweaty and instagraming on the tready. This wasn’t my first time around a circuit, I knew about nutrition, fluid intake, monitoring my asthma and remembering to stretch, this was going to be a golden experience I was sure of it. Then one day I overstretched a ligament around my knee and I was in crippling pain for a few days, I let everyone within ear shot know and made them rub Voltaren Gel on that sucker until I stopped sooking. It took a week to get better but that’s only because I did nothing except lay on the couch with my laptop, leg propped up and a heat pack on my thigh. It was pitiful but necessary.
For the last week I’ve kept things pretty easy and been more focused on swimming to ease the strain on my knee. I went to a sports warehouse and picked up some googles, silicone ear plugs and a swim cap, I felt like I was 12 all over again. Turns out swimming proper strokes (despite how good I used to be) is much harder to coordinate when your big old butt keeps rising to the surface. I tried using my tummy muscles to keep me grounded in my strokes and then thats when I remembered that I didn’t have any.
Watching me breaststroke is utterly ridiculous, halfway through the kick my thighs will start to float up and my feet come out of the water. When doing freestyle my flabby arms make it difficult to grab a decent breath but you know what, I’ve gone almost every night this week and I’m getting better. I’m learning that determination is key but to not to be too hard on myself at the same time, I respond better to praise even if it is from myself. I’ve also learnt that it’s ok to crave a dounut straight after swimming… but it’s just a bit counter-productive if I actually eat one.
I’m wearing Brazil Fitness workout pants in Deep Pink size Bella. I’ll admit here and now that I seem to be more energised when I wear pink, I have no idea why. The white top is from Autograph, picked up in a recent sale for under $10, I love the fit. I also found that it’s quite hot and I’m more sweaty than when I wear my Female For Life tops which are so light and breathable. I’ve worn this out walking to the post office with Aidan and I had one lady walk up and compliment me and ask where I got my pants… now that’s what I call winning!
