Caitlin and I woke up at 6am on Saturday morning and headed out to grab some breakfast and a few things for the room but before we could do any of that we had to take outfit photos… obviously!

I’m wearing a metallic oversized bronze sweater from Autograph, black capris and black and silver chunky necklace from Virtu, black singlet from TS14+, black Havianas, bangles from City Chic, canvas tote from Target and sunglasses from Equip.

It was nice to just chuck something comfortable on as we were in for a full day of walking. The sweater is quite light and sheer so it was really nice and easy to wear. I nabbed it on sale for $35 just before I left Australia.

After we’d taken photos we headed inside for our first american bagel with cream cheese. I could only eat half. Over breakfast we decided that we’d try as many stereotypical American Foods as we could just for kicks.

After breakfast we went from store to store trying to find the best deal on phones and prepaid deals. It was a total pain in the ass. If you’re going to the US get your phone unlocked. The prepaid phones they have aren’t software compatible with Android Instagram. BEYOND ANNOYING. We looked at getting a portable wifi unit prepaid but that was around $300 each and we wouldn’t have been able to call each other and we’d have to stay together. In the end we each bought phones with data and credit so we can tweet, facebook, email, and message and we just take photos with our iphones and upload the pics in bulk when we find a hotspot or go back to the hotel. Extremely frustrating.

After all the stress we headed out for a bit of retail therapy. In New York there are so many people and all you ever seem to do is follow crowds, wait to be served or stand in line, it really begins to test your patience. I waited in a queue for a fitting room for 25 minutes. Painful… but the bargains were worth it.

I nabbed these two dresses from Old Navy for just $7 each!

After Caitlin had a little shopping spree we headed to Maccas at Macy’s to try our second American meal of the day. Would you believe that this is what you get when you ask for a large cheeseburger meal!
- One litre of Soft Drink
- 25cm high scoop of Fries
- Two Cheeseburgers

I honestly wasn’t that hungry, I wanted a cheeseburger and a big drink but figured it was easier and cheaper to just get the meal. Caitlin laughed at me as I opened the bag, my jaw dropped and I felt ill looking at it all. I ate half a burger, some of the drink and maybe one or two chips and threw the rest away. I mean the meal doesn’t look that big in the photo but after holding the fries up and using my head to judge scale that is one HUGE scoop people!

I felt too ick after that so we headed back to the hotel and chilled out for awhile. We explored our hotel a little more and I found out Affinia had a sense of humour when it came to their official stationary.

After a bit of fluffing about on the internet and uploading pics we realised it was dark out (8:30pm sunset) so headed up to Times Square to see the bright lights. Commercialism at it’s most flamboyant.

“Oh say can’t you see…”

Caitlin’s sheer excitement about every aspect of being in New York is so infectious, I love it. At moments where my ankles feel like they’ll never forgive me and I want to crash and burn she’ll excitedly squeal and point out something cool and run off random tid bits of information that she’s learnt from all her guide books. So far she’s been the best travel companion.

It was a Saturday night so Times Square was really crowded and since I was still feeling a little off I wasn’t really in the mood to take pictures. I plan to head up there again later in the week on my own to really make the most of all the lights.

The people watching in New York City is all sorts of amazing. I think if you sat in a chair, in one spot for an entire year you would still see so much. We didn’t even really venture off 7th Avenue at all that day and we hadn’t even begun to scratch the surface. We were really lucky that our hotel was in a great spot so close to everything.

We’d been so busy we forgot to eat dinner but that was ok as we’d decided to have pizza, our third American meal of the day. We both ordered cheese pizza and it was really really yummy but just like the rest of the food here the sheer size of the portions were monstrous! I couldn’t finish it all but even though my stomach was doing little flip flops it was nice to be able to say I’d tried a few iconic meals.

We got back to room, uploaded pics and got settled for the night…

… but not before taking a pre-dawn photo of the skyline from our window.

OKay. You need to have Pink Berry, Tasti Delight, some kind of meat on a stick preferably purchased on a street corner, Diet Snapple (any kind of Snapple) and a York chocolate bar. They’re like Mint Patties but like the Warlord of Mint Patties.
Also you look beautiful in the moustache pen shot. I’m actually being serious. Very slinky hair and delicious skin.

ahh…nearly commented about phones and data when i saw something you posted yesterday but probably too late now…Tmobile is the best (only) place to get mobile prepaid including data, hubby spent ages researching it before our trip last year and already knows exactly where the closest place is to our first hotel in NYC in July. NYC is an amazing city, it’s in my blood now, I think I’ll find it hard to want to go anywhere else in preference to going back there. Have an absolute ball!! Tatum xx
Great pics, love NYC at night :D and forever21 THE BEST! it’s huge that you get lost wandering around looking and stuff forever lol. Cant wait to see that dinner pictures you took :) xoxo
Oh my God. Forever 21. I DIE. If I find something on their website and you’re close enough to go back can you snaffle it up for me pleeeeeeeease!?

Oh gosh, this post is making me PINE for NYC, I was there in July last year and I miss it so much. That place is forever imprinted on me – I keep begging Mr BB to look for a job anywhere in the US (he is a citizen) so I can go to NYC a couple of times a year!
You HAVE to eat at Eataly and Rickshaw Dumpling House. Also, you need to go to Chinatown for New York hot and sour soup. So good!
Your outfit looks cute but weren’t you hot!?
I love hearing about your trip and seeing all the photos. It’s the closest I’ll get to being there! Enjoy:)
OMG! Now some blogs make me a tad jealous but this post takes the cake… get me to the USA pronto! That Maccas meal is huge, crazy!

I was looking at that top in the blue version, it’s so gorgeous! Ah, loving all the photos!
Oh my goodness you are in NYC right now??? HOW COOL! Where are you staying? Don’t you just love the constant buzz that is NY? I went last year for 2 weeks and Im heading back in another 2 weeks. So excited for you. It would have been soon cool if we were there at the same time. Would have requested an aussie blogger meet up over there. But I’m planning on catching up with a few of my NY followers so Im super excited because they have offered to show me around. I met up with one the last time as well. She actually took us shopping to that Forever 21 in Times Square and we went at around midnight. LOVED their clothes and the $20ish prices!!
Also we lived on the fresh berries at corner vendors for breakfast because compared to Australia their prices are sooo good and the produce was really fresh! I’m so excited to go back…also try to head to Dos Cominos. They have one of the 3rd Ave if you like mexican food. Their guacamole is to DIE FOR!!!
Hope you have the best time…so looking forward to your coming posts.
Mele xo
I am loving following your journey! My hubs and I plan on doing a NYC trip next year and I am so excited about it as I’m reading this. I can’t believe the food! Is there a rule that things have to be head sized? Looking forward to part three.

First time reader and comment leaver! I agree, the proportion sizes are just too much! I am glad you had such a good time in NYC, I have lived in NY just about my whole life and can you believe I have never been?! Trust me, I know how insane that sounds. I would have recommended, Five Guys, their small fry proportion is too much for my family of four.
