Yesterday was busy with playdates, a trip to the fruit shop and lots of work. When Steve came home I took a few business calls, set about making dinner and planned on a relaxing night in front of the laptop. Steve, unfortunately, had other ideas. After dinner, at 7pm he said “How would you feel if the TV was over here instead of over there? I think we should move the room around.” I let out a deep sigh knowing full well that this wouldn’t just be a topic of conversation or something to ponder, he was ready to act on it… now.

We go through this every six months or so, the urge catches one of us by surprise and the other one is along for the ride until the itch is scratched. It’s our idea of a sea change. I think this shuffle was bought on by the big ugly brown couch being thrown to the curb. The retro purple couch from my office has taken it’s place for the time being and because it’s so slim and doesn’t take up so much space it meant we could do more with the layout.

Steve, Aidan and I all worked together on it until 8pm and then they left me to do the rest whilst they did the shower and bed routine, not exactly how I saw myself spending the evening. This morning when I woke up and stomped down the hallway at some ungodly hour, I admit it was rather refreshing seeing the room so different. I think it works really well, Aidan loves the extra space to run around and best of all Steve is happy… well for the next six months anyway.
Do you get random urges to shuffle?

Definately, partly due to laziness to move stuff back though, lol. Our dining room area is now the dining room / therapy space – and it works so much better than it did before. Heaps more functional space, less having to dodge the big dining table.
And I like those first few days of newness, a mini-makeover is always welcome here!
I use to get this urge all the time when I lived at home. I would change my room around about once every 3 months, sometimes more often.
Luke really isn’t into it, so when we got married I toned it down a fair bit (to about once every six months). We’ve been in this house for a year and haven’t done any rearranging. But watch out Luke, cause I think I’m inspired!!
I thought I was the only one that did this. Most of my friends places dont change from year to year whereas I get an itch to rearrange between the 6-12 month mark. As as single gal, I dont have to worry about where I put things – just dont have the help to move things…..
Oh yeah! All of a sudden I will need to move the living area around and it has to heppn NOW. Looks really lovely! It’s always nice to wake up to organization and a fresh room!
Hey Dani! I have tried several times to comment but apparently I suck. Just wanted to say that the hubs and I get the urge to move stuff around quite a bit and I understand! When the urge hits, strike! Love the living room. Looks super cozy!
All. The. Time. Drives my partner to distraction. I tell him if he doesn’t like it, shut up and buy me a bigger house.. it seems to dull his protests :P
BEFORE we had fish tanks, yup I used to move the rooms around every month or so – I get bored easily! However the fish tanks prevent me from really doing big changes, I am actually looking forward to the day when we only have one or two of them rather than the amount we do!
All the time! We rearranged our lounge room a couple of weeks ago. It’s so much better now. I find myself refining rooms all the time. We’ve been here three years now but often you have to live in the space first before you find the perfect arrangement.
Ps: love the couch!
