GM Photographics Portrait Couture

by Danimezza on August 22, 2012

Before I left for New York I was treated to something very special, a Portrait Couture session with GM Photographics. Now lets get real here, I’m not camera shy and I’ve done my fair share of professional and amateur photo shoots but this was probably one of the most comfortable and relaxing ones I’ve done.

Working with Simona from GM Photographics was so easy and honestly a pleasure. Being a former model herself she knew how to put you at ease as well as show you the best poses to enhance your curves or downplay them. Since being in front of the camera myself I now have a better appreciation of what models go through when posing for me and that experience has changed how I engage with my subjects during a shoot.

The professional studio is located in inner sydney suburbs and parking is a synch as it’s at her family home. I rocked up with my big suitcase crammed with potential outfits and I was greeted with a cool drink and smile as soon as I walked in the door. After we’d discussed outfits and ohhed and ahhed at all my jewellery it was time to sort out hair and make up… it was all going to big, very big and I love it!

Some don’t realise that everyday make up is much different to make up used during a photoshoot. Foundations are usually applied quite thickly and matte powders are used to avoid sheen and minimise fine lines and wrinkles. This helps your skin to appear bright, soft and youthful. Eye make up is usually quite heavy too to draw focus to them as is blush to assist in contouring the face from all angles. Simona is one skilled lady, you can read more about her here.

The photoshoot happened on a day when I was filming as a part of the Kidspot Ford Territory Top 50 Bloggers Competition where I was in the Top 5. You can see some of the Portrait Couture shoot in the video below:

It was a great experience and I highly recommend it. I kind of wish I’d done it with my sister Stephanie then we’d have the best gift for our parents at Christmas. The photo above is my press image used in correspondance and even on my business cards! As a part of my experience review I was gifted the session by GM Photographics as well as 10 prints to keep, please note I wasn’t paid for this review. Keep an eye open because *tomorrow I’ll show you how I display the photos in my home.

Which photo is your favourite?

*The second post will be live on Friday night, apologies for the error.

Wow, these pictures are gorgeous, I stumbled on your blog a few days ago and having sifting through a lot of your posts, I have come to the conclusion that you are one AMAZING lady. Being a bigger girl myself and loving fashion and photography, I really appreciate the tips, websites, reviews and over all beauty of your blog!
One question I have is, where did you get that beyond stunning white dress from that you used in this shoot?
Keep blogging! xx
