Aussie Curves – Polka Dots

by Danimezza on November 5, 2012

I don’t own polka dot stuff anymore. I went through a phase a few years ago prior to Aidan, my true love is florals. I had to borrow a stock item I used in a photo shoot to be able to participate this week. It’s a tankini top but because the support is so good I can wear it like a top without a bra, love that! Polka dots scream “RETRO” to me so I knew I’d have to wear these funky sunglasses Suger gave me a few months ago. Once I had the two items I built the rest of the outfit around them. I tried not to think to much, to just throw something together. I’m a terrible over-thinker so it was nice to wing it.

When I put the glasses on and knew I wanted long locks. I whipped out my extensions, whacked them on top of my head, parted it and put one of my vintage thrift scarves on. I keep looking at the pictures and thinking… is that me?? I look so different.

  • Floral Scarf – Vintage thrifted
  • Retro Sunglasses – Gift from Suger
  • White Shirt – Crossroads
  • Polka Dot Tankini Top – City Chic gifted
  • Denim Mini Skirt – City Chic circa 2007
  • Pink Woven Clutch - it’s a pencil case!
  • Resin Rose RingCan not remember for the life of me.
  • “Beach Cruiser” Nail Polish – ORLY gifted
  • Wedges – Target gifted

I feel like I should be sipping a corona and heading to a balmy evening BBQ by a pool in this outfit. I feel so funky and girly. The skirt is short, it always has been. I’ve had it forever but only wear it when I’m wearing swimmers, I don’t wear shorts when swimming so I like having something I can easily slip on and off.

I’m so glad Steve came home today after being overseas with work for a week, I missed him like crazy. Just like we do every Sunday afternoon I pranced around for him and he made me laugh. Tripods can not make you laugh. Steve’s not really involved in the blog at all but I love that he’s slowly “getting” what I’m trying to do, that Aussie Curves has become “a thing” and he’s willing to help out where he can.

As for polka dots, I’m not really sure they’re for me but they’re definitely fun to try once and awhile. The tankini is moving into my wardrobe, I highly recommend it, especially if you’re busty and need some extra support. Want to see more plus size swimwear pieces? Well I’ve been working on a project for the past two months and hopefully it will be live in the next week or so. I want it to be perfectly perfect before I show you. You’ll love it I promise!

Thanks Lisa, I’m trying to push my outfits a little more. The ones I’m really nervous about posting are the outfits I now wear routinely. In a way publishing them online and getting feedback before wearing them out in public is helping my confidence to try new things.

Hi Dani. I enjoyed reading your post. I have only recently started to get interested in getting new clothes and putting together things, it is surprising but my husband is really into it too, who knew. I am glad you are having so much fun. A denim skirt is definitely on my wish list I used to enjoy wearing them, a very long time ago now though. :) Your shirt reminds me of a cardi I bought my 15 year old daughter on Friday at Valleygirl. She was trying to match with a retro styled long skirt, so we were very happy with it, similar colour to yours. You look really good in your polka dots.

That is so awesome, it’s lovely when our partners embrace our positive changes. Denim skirts are awesome, there will be heaps coming out in the following weeks.

Loving this look: it’s v retro and kinda also reminds me of Amy Winehouse too. Love the tankini: have you worn it swimming yet? Ive never bought any Shitty Chic swimwear – wondering how it holds up when you actually wear it swimming….

I love the vintage scarf and the sunnies! They’re just gorgeous! I’ve never been a fan of polka dots but I have to admit that they’re quite nice with a dark background. You look sassy! :)
