First Day of Pre School

Aidan First Day of PreSchool-2

Today is Aidan’s first day of Pre School and we were both so excited. I’ve been prepping him for this day for months and so far the transition has gone smoothly. Even Steve skipped out of work for an hour so he could come too. It was a big morning full of excited giggles, lots of questions and a lot of hugs but thankfully no tears from any of us. We were the first to arrive at school.

When Aidan was at daycare they said that he was more confident when he arrived earlier and met the kids one by one rather than walking into a room full of kids so I tried to keep that in mind and it worked. As each kid came into the yard he’d look at me and say “Yay more friends!” and then run off and say “Hi my name’s Aidan, what’s yours?” and then rush back and tell me.

The look on his face when I told him he could finally wear all his new school stuff was so funny, he even did a little dance. The backpack is almost exactly like Steve’s work bag, I got it from BigW and it’s perfect. When he first tried it on he said it was too heavy but then we clipped it up and he wouldn’t let us take it off. He carried it all the way to school all by himself. It only has a spare change of clothes and his lunchbox but for someone who’s never worn a backpack before it was a big effort.

He hung his bag up on the hook in his little yellow wooden locker and we put his lunchbox in the fridge. There was a “lunchbox inspection” so the teachers could check that the foods complied with the rules and gave parents a better idea of how much they should actually pack. I got an A+ for my effort, I freaking nailed it! I made a little Vine clip of what’s in his lunchbox incase you’re interested.

We kissed him goodbye, reminded him to ask if he needed to go to the toilet and then we were off. Steve and I walked quietly hand in hand all the way home. “He’ll be fine, right? We’ve done a good job?” I asked. Steve squeezed my hand and said “Yep, he’ll be fine we don’t have to worry“. I know Steve’s just as nervous as I am but we both know that Aidan’s truly excited and that having friends and furthering his learning is just what he needs. I just keep asking myself, as I sit in my empty quiet house, how did we get to this point so quickly?

My goodness, I haven’t read your blog (or many blogs) much lately but I could NOT go past this post without commenting! Where has the time gone??!! I first started following your blog when you were posting pics of your gorgeous PREGNANCY outfits! Pregnancy! And I swear that was only 2 blinks ago!

Aidan is growing up to be a gorgeous little munchkin. It’s a bittersweet moment when they head off to school/kindy but you must both be proud as punch.

Oh what a big boy! I remember Katinkas first day at preschool – I was so nervous and worried all day, hoping she wasn’t miserable missing me… Turns out she loved it! 6 months later, she has NEVER said “i don’t want to go to school. I just know Aidan is going to love it too!

It seems like only yesterday I was taking you to your first day of school at Irrawang primary. All the children happily were escorted to their class lines and over the PA, ” the parents may go home now, see you this afternoon.”
