After spending the first day in NYC wandering close to our hotel my roomie Caitlin and I decided to go further up the block and explore a little more. I finally got to see Macy’s but I was too intimidated to go in, deciding it would be less crowded during the week. I was wrong about that but that’s another story.
Wanting to get our phones sorted as soon as possible was our goal and in the end we just sucked it up, realised we were screwed regardless and Caitlin and I each bought prepaid phones, call credit and data for $198 USD from AT&T. They were crap, we barely used them and we wasted our money, lesson learnt. I’ll write a post specifically about my digital hook up situation for this year in another post.
Caitlin jumped on a tour bus and I wandered into Sephora to see what all the fuss is about. I grabbed some eye lash glue and a mini They’re Real mascara so cheap that I almost shed a tear, the prices are so cheap. Afterward I wandered back slowly to the hotel, soaking up the city and the afternoon alone time. Enjoying the peace before the inevitable madness of FFFWeek.
Our hotel room was stunning but needed a few touches to feel like home, I wanted it to transform into a girlie paradise. I walked a few blocks to Wholefoods and bought delicious breakfast things, some healthy snacks for the fridge and fresh flowers to add some warmth and fragrance. Then I asked the doorman to take the first of many outfit photos for me.
I requested additional thick plush robes (heaven), extra towels for wet drippy hair and even more coat hangers. Seriously, Affinia was so intent on granting my every wish. I’m glad I’ll be staying there again knowing I’ll be looked after.
Caitlin managed to buy us tickets to see Chicago it was so so so good. I want to see more shows this time, The Lion King at the very least. I would never have gone if Caitlin hadn’t twisted my arm and insisted that I break out and try something new. I owe her. We all got dressed up and Samantha managed to buy a ticket at the door although not with us. It was glam and so much fun.
I insisted we take this photo after the show, I wanted to capture how truly happy and relaxed we all were. You know I’m super happy when you can hardly see my eyes. That night was one of my favourite moments in NYC.
The night wasn’t over though, after a quick google we realised that Forever21 in Times Square was open until 2AM!!! It was 11:30pm so the night was young and we headed out to seek the plus size range. We figured it would be quiet… we were wrong, so wrong. The place was pumping til closing but we left at the sensible hour of 1:30am.
We were out past midnight dancing in a store that pretended to be a club, we weren’t even drinking and we were having the best time. It was the weirdest thing ever. The only place we could try and replicate this in Australia would be Kmart and something tells me it wouldn’t have quite the same effect. We each found the same fuchsia and black sequin mini skirts in the sales section and tried them on for a laugh, such babes.
We headed back to the hotel and it took ages for me to zone out and drift off to sleep. This was my first full on, super long day and my introduction to the city that never sleeps. It would appear that during my time in NYC I would hardly sleep either but every moment was worth it.
Special thanks to TS14+ who supported and partly funded my trip to FFFWeek.
