I’m very excited to announce a project I’ve been working on for the last few weeks, “Captured Curves” showcasing plus size models. I personally photograph and interview Australian and International Plus Size Models sharing them here on Danimezza.com. The models are given the opportunity to share their own unique fashion style, personality and message through a simple street style photo shoot followed by a question & answer session.
There is no hair and make up team, no stylists, no assistants… just the model and I. The aim of the project is to give more exposure to plus size models, making them more relatable to readers and consumers whilst encouraging brands to adopt these stunning professional women to represent their labels.
Lauren and I met briefly whilst I was in Melbourne and we talked about the industry whilst I photographed her casually across the road from my hotel. I instantly fell in love with her freckles, bright cheery personality and the way she was fully aware of her body. I hope you enjoy getting to know Lauren, a newcomer to the industry but definitely someone to watch.

When did you first start modelling?
Being a plus model is a pretty recent thing for me. I signed with the fabulous Bella Model Management in early November last year and have loved every minute since. It is such a wonderful, liberating feeling to embrace and celebrate my curves and to have the chance to represent amazing designers and labels. In the acting and music theatre world, often a certain size or shape is preferred so it is nice to be in an industry where my curves and height are an asset!
What’s your day job?
I am also an actor and a singer as well as a model. When I’m not kept busy with those three things, I work as a retail sales assistant for Australian brand, Metalicus. It is nice to still be around fashion and I love helping women of all shapes and sizes feel confident and comfortable in new outfits.
If you could choose any designer in the world, who would you love to model for?
Modelling for Diane von Fürstenberg would be my ultimate dream. She has a wonderful way of designing flattering feminine shapes with a fearless use of bold colour and brave prints.
What is it about fashion that excites you and who inspires you?
I love that an outfit can tell a story and instantly captures a personality, mood or moment in time. My style icon and role model at the moment is fellow Bella model, the amazing Robyn Lawley, she has an effortless beauty and relaxed chic style that is very inspiring.
What is the one word people use to describe you most?
It would have to be a toss up between vivacious and romantic.
What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened at a shoot?
Nothing comes to mind instantly from my modelling career thus far, however last year I was cast as a curvy hostess of a gentlemen’s bar who gets an olive caught in her cleavage, for a prime time television drama. Without giving too much away, it was pretty hilarious when I met a leading Aussie actor and one of the first things he said to me was, “So, is it ok if I touch your boobs?” It was a very funny day on set and I will forever be known to the cast and crew as “the olive girl”.
Have you modeled overseas? How do you find the plus size fashion industry different here in comparison?
I wish! I haven’t modeled overseas yet but I hope to in the not too distant future. The main destinations on my model to do list are London and New York. I will have to let you know when I get there. I am so happy that globally there seems to be a growing presence of support and love for authentic curvy women in fashion.
How would you describe your perfect Sunday?
I love Sundays! A breakfast out with my darling, definitely involving avocado and feta on sourdough toast, followed by a wander through a Melbourne market (hopefully resulting in some great vintage finds and fresh flowers). A picnic in a sunny dog-friendly park with friends and one of my favourite activities “pup watching”. An evening on a rooftop with live music or performing in a gig as my indie-pop pseudonym “Valentine”.
How would you describe your own personal style?
Colourful, playful, feminine, fun, fresh, simple. I am a big believer in accentuating your “best bits” so you will always see me in something high-waisted whether it be a pencil style skirt or high-waisted jeans. I am attracted to simple shapes and bold block colours and love accessories; more often than not I will sport some sort of statement neckpiece. My Pop always used to tell me to “put a bit of lippy on” so taking his advice, my best tip to top off an outfit is adding a bold, bright lip!
