“Would you and the boys like to come Kayaking with us on Sunday to explore the Manly area?” An email from Sonia greeted me on my return from New York. “Sure” I said. “Of Course” I said, “That would be lovely!”. The whole time I’m thinking “What am I going to wear? How am I going to get up that early on a Sunday? Will my ass even fit in a kayak?” Shaking off the jet lag and the doubt I was determined to experience it.
My first challenge was figuring out what to wear and I think I nailed it. I was comfortable, colourful and appropriate for the activity. As a plus size woman ticking all three boxes isn’t always achievable so I may have pat myself on the back. I wore:
- Hat – Hayman Island Souvenir
- Sunglasses – Factorie
- Hoodie – TS14+ Active
- Ribbed Tank – Lane Bryant
- Pants – Female For Life
- Sunscreen – Invisible Zinc
- Lip Balm – Clinique Chubby Stick
We arrived at Sydney Harbour Kayaks right on time and Aidan was super excited. Children aged 3-5 can kayak but they have to be in a 3-seated vessel with two adults and much to Aidan’s dismay he wasn’t allowed to paddle but that didn’t deter him. He sang songs, looked for birds, sea creatures and enjoyed the picnic on the beach. Best of all he loved that we were out “adventuring”.
It really was a nice homecoming. After being away from my boys for the longest time ever, to do something fun and out of the usual was awesome. I can’t thank Sonia enough for inviting us out for the day. We don’t venture out to the Northern Beaches at all really and it was a great reminder that we should. I spied a couple of op shops and clothing stores on the way home so I might just have to go back.
We had the perfect weather for it, cool and crisp at 9am but the sun was out and the energy was high. We saw lots of birds and even a seal! It didn’t hang around long enough for us to catch it on film but it was a pretty special moment. Aidan simply adores seals, as far as he’s concerned they’re the only reason we go to the zoo. For him to see one in the wild, that was priceless.
Thanks Sonia and the Stackhouse Boys for a wonderful day out, it was so nice to meet your family and discover your side of town. You’d better brace yourself lady because now it’s time for me to share an iconic Sydney experience with you!
