Summer time and the livin’ is easy… if only in my head. I’ve been lucky and missed most of the winter, soaking up the New York City heat. Coming back to a bitter cold winter was a bit of a shock but two weeks later I was sunning myself in Darwin.
SS14 Fashion Week is fast approaching and I’m waiting with baited breath. I’m also planning the Danimezza SWIM 2013 Lookbook with full force so summertime style, make up and locations are all I can think of… in my head I consider myself already there.
I’m being a bit cheeky and playing catch up as I missed out on Boho and Homemade week, two challenges I was really looking forward to. I planned to photograph this very outfit for Boho whilst I was in NYC but I couldn’t find any shorts. It was one of my shopping missions, one I only accomplished the day before I left leaving no time to photograph it. I know, excuses excuses but never the less, here it is in all it’s glory, just without the touristy backdrop.
So why is it also Homemade? Well, see that shiny silky shrug… I made that bad boy! I saw the satin neon bird print at Spotlight and I had to have it. I wanted something unique to take to FFFWeek and this was the ticket. Unfortunately I never got the chance to wear it.
My original plan for Homemade was to show you a brilliant skirt I’ve yet to create, the fabric lies sadly in a plastic bag dormant on my studio floor. I just simply haven’t had any time to devote to it. The shrug wasn’t made to a pattern, just kind of folded, trimmed and hemmed into place. No tutorials here, I grew up in the class of “just wing it”.
It’s not perfect but perfection is overrated anyway. Who really cares when it’s hot, humid and sweaty. You have better things to worry about, like how your hair has become unromantically frizzy and the thought of running low on 3B Cream leaves you with panic attacks. On that note, in the past I would have considered these short-shorts but now I think they’re the perfect length for me, chubby knees be damned.
I bought these in a size 24, thinking I’d have to size up but I really didn’t have to, even a 20 would have fit well as they give out. You can see in the pics they’re baggy at my tummy, crotch and hips but I’m not parting with them until my new ones arrive because they’re THAT good. I also bought them in white because I like to live on the wild side but that’s a totally different post.
