Finding a black sparkly garment used to make me happy. Those were the days before body-con, sheer lace and colour blocking and all the other fabulous things about fashion that I’ve discovered in recent years. My wardrobe is no longer confined to black “slimming” or “flattering” dresses, I just own dresses. Printed dresses, colourful dresses, sexy dresses, I love them all!
As much as I embrace all these things you simply can’t go past a Little Black Dress aka: LBD. They’re perfect for any occasion (yes, even weddings these days!) they suit everyone’s complexion, they hide stains and if you whack on a pair of black oversized sunnies you become Audrey Hepburn’s twin… almost.
The best thing of all when it comes to LBD’s is that you can never have too many. It’s all about the silhouette, the cut and the texture. It’s one of the key components of a wardrobe that I highly recommend you invest in. The higher the quality fabric the nicer the tone of black and (usually) the longer it will stay that way. I’ll repeat because it’s important, don’t skimp out when it comes to a LBD, it will give you a lower cost per wear in the long run than any key item in your wardrobe. Buy the one that makes you feel instantly chic when you slip it on and can be accessorised in a multitude of ways.
I choose to accessorise with my four year old but that’s just my personal choice hehe. These photos were taken after his big birthday party (blog post soon) I couldn’t help myself when I saw all the beautiful balloons. Even when wearing all black I still find a way to inject bold colour, I’m completely and utterly converted from my old dark ways, my hair included… but that’s another story for another day.
