How did you get into plus size modelling?
Randomly stumbled upon plus size agencies online one day after repeatedly being told by straight size agencies that they love my face but needed me to get to sample size in body to be able to book jobs. I found BGM Models and instantly loved what I read about them & clicked through an email application with some photos attached of me taken that day in a tee shirt and shorts. The next day, I had a reply with a contract attached. I guess you could say, the rest is history!
What is your day job?
I have actually just gone back to University, Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology). No day job for me right now. Back to financially struggling full time student for me. 🙂
If you could model for any designer in the world who would it be and why?
There are so many amazing and inspirational designers these days! If I were to list them all, we’d be here all day. Personally, I would love to model some of Alex Perry’s gorgeous gowns and SHOW him that curvy girls can make a stunning outfit look just as good and “expensive” as any model. In all sincerity, with every modelling experience I’ve had, I’ve taken away so much from it so I would be over the moon to work with any and all designers available to me. Every person is so unique and I find I have so much to learn and so much to gain from collaborating with all walks of life.
What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened on a shoot for a client?
This wasn’t during a shoot but during a runway and it was my first ever runway too. I was beyond nervous and a little paranoid about falling flat on my face in front of the hundreds of people watching. The model that walked before me was the one to stumble, lose her shoe, do a little awkward dance to try and regain her composure and pick herself up before walking the remainder of the runway like Cinderella with one heel in hand. The way she handled herself and held her head high and finished that walk with utter confidence actually inspired and motivated me. I lost my nerves and replaced them with excitement and adrenaline. Needless to say, I strutted my stuff without a single stumble.
Your hair is incredibly long and glossy, what’s your secret?
I wish I could give away some magical product here & ensure all your readers healthy long tresses. However, there is honestly no secret behind it. I suppose I’m blessed with good genes for my hair to grow so fast and so thick. I do use Moroccan/Argon oil on my ends to keep them frizz free. Other than that, I honestly just use whatever shampoo/conditioner is on special at the time when I’m shopping. But it HAS to smell good. That’s my only prerequisite.
What is your favourite thing to order for brunch?
Any question that requires me to single out one particular meal is just too hard to answer! I’m such a food lover that I can never just settle for naming one thing. It really depends on my mood and the weather and everything else surrounding me. There are days where I just can’t go past something sweet, pancakes or waffles with fruit and hot chocolate fudge! Then, there are days where savoury is the way to go and I opt for some bruschetta or a yummy omelette. But honestly, this answer changes on any given day.
Who do you admire in the plus size fashion industry?
Laura Wells, fellow BGM model, is someone I definitely look up to. The fact that she is such a beautiful woman, inside and out, killing it in the modelling world yet also working to help our environment is truly inspirational and I wish more people would use their stature in the world to do good for humanity and our planet. Who wouldn’t want to make a difference?
What are the top three beauty products you couldn’t live without?
- Blistex because there’s nothing worse for me than chapped, dry & sore lips!
- Nail whitening polish because dirty looking or discoloured nails are a yucky no-no!
- BB Cream for those days where a full face of makeup is just not needed yet you still want to look fresh faced & blemish free! And I know you said top 3 beauty products but mascara & white eyeliner come even with the top 3 already listed. A swipe of white liner in the bottom inner lash line can brighten up even the most tired looking face and a quick brush of mascara on my blonde tipped lashes stops them from looking non existent so I’d definitely say those two products are equal third with my BB cream.
What has been your modelling career highlight so far?
Walking for MYER (Australian Designers) last year during MSFW was definitely a highlight. However, I know this will sound cliché but the biggest highlight of working in this industry is truly the people you come across, whether it’s other models, designers, stylists, photographers, hair/makeup artists or even just assistants… I take a bit from everyone I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Tips and tricks, constructive criticism, a friendship or even just an ego boost…
How would you describe your own personal style?
My sense of style is definitely very varied & forever changing. One day, I might be all girly with a floral frilly dress and cute ballet slippers, the next day I’ll be rocking some worn & torn jeans with a basic tee, leather studded jacket and chunky biker boots. I dress to express rather than impress so you never really know what you’ll get with me on any given day.
