Last Friday was the first day of #PBEvent and from past experience I knew my outfit would have to say as much about me as possible, I was thinking beyond a business card or a quick hello. I wanted my outfit to be memorable, to be eye catching, to reflect my taste and personality but also somehow be comfortable as I knew it would be a long day.
That’s a lot to ask of an outfit but I’m proud to say I think I nailed it. I received so many compliments on the day, both online and off. Theary’s flowing skirts are just made for me and beautifully so, I want all the colours. You might remember the pink one from New York, when I saw the purple on sale via ModCloth I couldn’t help myself.
I joked that I was channelling Princess Malibu Barbie and it kind of stuck for the rest of the day. I felt so pretty and special as I glided around the room meeting new people. By wearing things that I loved, bold colours, sheer fabric and oversized bling it left me feeling more confident even though I was probably “over dressed” by some people’s standard. That’s just me, I’m a little over the top and I’m ok with that.
Originally I’d ordered a Tee from ASOS but they screwed up and by the time they fixed the issue it wouldn’t have arrived in time. I was worried the ribbed tank would be too casual but it was perfect, I think it toned it down a bit and I just love the jewel tones together. I borrowed Suger’s clutch as it went perfectly with my necklace, one of the perks of having a similar size roomie… double the wardrobe.
I think the biggest tip I can offer those in need of wardrobe or outfit guidance when attending a networking event of any kind is to personally reflect who you are and what you love with your clothes. People are such visual creatures, we appreciate art, expression, personality and curiosities. Play up to that, make it work in your favour. If you wear a little black dress because you think everyone else will be wearing something similar, then you’ll just be another lady in a LBD. Don’t be afraid to differentiate yourself, you are unique and wonderful… own it.
