Yesterday was the Hawkesbury Ladies Race Day and I organised a few of the Aussie Curves ladies to come along, dress up and have some fun. This was only the second time I’ve ever been to the races and it was pretty darn fabulous. The weather was clear and breezy but boy it was hot! We had reserved two covered tables right by the track and fashions on the field, it was so much fun to watch all the outfits walk by.
For weeks I’d planned to make a beautiful dress but with everything that’s been happening it just never made it to the top of the priority list so I bought one. As soon as I saw this number by City Chic I knew it was perfect. The fabric was light and slinky, the print was beautiful neon digi-florals and it had a tulle layer that made it extra flouncy. I like flouncy.
To accessorise my lovely dress I wore my vintage glomesh purse, white pumps, simple drop earrings, a matching fan and my beautiful custom fascinator by Locopa Designs. I sent Pamela photos of my dress and she whipped up this beauty just in time for the event. I received lots of compliments and I felt really put together… hot, but put together. I made it into the second round of Fashions on the Field in the contemporary category but didn’t place in the finals. It took a loooong time but it was exciting and I’m glad I entered.
The ladies all really made an effort to make it a fun day. They made plates of food, lots of dips and crackers, sandwiches and cupcakes, even chicken wings! I supplied all the water and soft drinks on ice and we all bought bubbles from the bar. I even made little floral table centrepieces with milkshake cups and floral foam from the Reject Shop, filled with $5 bunches of simple white fresh flowers. I was so happy just chilling back and chatting with the girls that I completely forgot to put a bet on. Oh well, I was there for the fashion anyway!
Oh and we were also there to support a charity close to our hearts, the local firemen of the Hawkesbury annual calendars went on sale. They’ve had a very rough start to the fire season already so the ladies were more than willing to do whatever they could to help. They even stood up on the soft grass in heels to watch them sprint race (wearing only firemen’s pants and all hot and sweaty) down the track, dedication to the cause people.
