The response to this year’s issue of SWIM+ has moved me more than you know. I’m so very very thankful for all of you who took the time to look, to share and to comment or message me about it. It takes a lot of work, a lot of planning and what feels like a million emails but it’s the personal heartfelt and often tearful messages from you that make it all worthwhile.
Everyone who collaborated on this years issue did it with joy and out of love and I’m forever grateful because without them it wouldn’t be what it is and I’m immensely proud of it, of them. Samantha dropped everything for a week to be apart of it again, the girl always brings “it” and she has a way of turning potentially stressful situations into fun ones. Sara graced the cover this year, she’d never done anything like this before and to top that off she also did all the hair and make up.
Amanda has a way with design that’s so in sync we rarely require a second draft. She created the beautiful cover as well as other projects for me in the past and I couldn’t recommend her highly enough. A round of applause to my parents for all their support and to my sister who helped me pull it all together, polish it and sit through countless phone calls about it.
I’m also grateful to TS14+ because without their continued support of what I do passion projects like this wouldn’t be able to get off the ground. Their assistance with production costs meant that the time I would have spent doing random sponsored posts to earn the money to make it happen (like I did last year) meant that I could focus on the project itself.
The money I spend on the blog/gear/travel/events/etc all has to be made from the blog and the lookbook always takes a fair chunk, not only from my bank balance but also from my time which could be spent earning money by doing other things. SWIM+ isn’t a money earner, that was never the point. I wanted it to be free, widely accessible and freely shareable to anyone who may need it.
I wanted to create images that weren’t available to me when I was young. Beautiful inspiring images that could have helped me see beauty in my similar form not just my lack of the “ideal” and maybe I wouldn’t have been so hard on myself. TS14+ understood that, They didn’t ask for anything in return, they didn’t even see SWIM+ until you did. They just had my back, the way they always do.
Incase you haven’t had the chance to see it yet, I wanted to share with you the images I’d taken for SWIM+. I wanted you to be able pin them, save them, instagram them, print them and stick them to your mirror as a reminder that every woman deserves a glamorously fashionable summer.
If you see something you like, check out the lookbook for credits and info on where to find it, cheers!
