Wide Open Spaces

For the past week or more Aidan and I have spent blissful long, lazy days at my Aunty Penny & Uncle Andy's homestead in country NSW and I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the school holidays. I shoved what we needed in the gorgeous Paklite suitcase I was gifted for review, filled the car with blankets and pillows, strapped our bikes to the back then we hit the road. We left Steve and our dog Charlie at home which was sad but I'm so glad Aidan and I ventured out and explored ... [ Discover More ]

A surprise invitation arrived in the mail which included three passes to attend the Sydney premiere of Cinderella at the State Theatre. I'm not sure if it would even be possible to convey the level of excitement and anticipation that flooded the house. Wardrobes were raided in the hopes of finding the perfect outfits. It ended in a week-long op shopping mission to find a new suit for my little Prince Charming who was adamant on suiting-up. As you can see he was pretty happy with the ... [ Discover More ]

Big School

Danimezza Aidan First Day of School 2015-1

Today is Aidan's first day of Primary School, Kindergarten to be exact. I sat at the end of his bed late last night after I'd laid out his uniform, ready for the next day and just watched him sleep. So sweet and warm in a bed that seems to shrink with each day. When did he stop being so tiny? I know he'll still need me, just in different ways. I know that he'll always be my little boy even when he has his own mortgage. This is just one of those days, those milestones that once-upon-a-time I ... [ Discover More ]

FAMILY 2014 sml-3

I love my family. We're outwardly confident, emotional, stubborn, loyal and loving. I have more relations outside of this group but at the end of the day these are the ones who really know me, they're my people: Mum, Dad, my sister and my boys. Sometimes I wish we weren't so insular, that there were more bums on seats around the table at gatherings, that we weren't so co-dependant and self sufficient but then again I'm not sure I'd really have had it any other way. This is what I know, who I ... [ Discover More ]

House Tour – Lounge Room

Danimezza House Tour Lounge Room-9

I shared this photo online earlier this week and I just wanted to say thank you for the huge response! It's been awhile since I got my proper camera out and took some photos just for the love of it. Steve takes my outfit photos and I've been lazy and using my iPhone often, I'll try to do better but in the meantime enjoy peeking into one of my most used spaces. In case you're wondering... that's my spot. I will forever be cursed with custard coloured walls. Why people think tan/beige/custard ... [ Discover More ]

House Tour – Aidan’s Room

Danimezza House Tour Aidans Bedroom-7

I am blessed to have a son. A son who is undoubtedly as colourful and conversational as his mother and as cheeky and practical as his father. I've also shared his room on the blog in the past (here, here and here) but for the first time it's not just me doing the styling, Aidan's getting in on the action too. As he's at the wise old age of five now he considers himself a bit of an expert when it comes to knowing what he likes and doesn't like. Dinosaurs, stars and rainbows are at the very top of ... Greener Pastures

I have a secret confession, something I've been working on for months and somehow even managed to hide from instagram. Something I found incredibly hard to do I might add although a few hints crept through... I'm currently obsessed with landscaping, grass to be exact. I drive by golf courses and I'm literally green with envy. I know it's weird especially as there are so many other things I could be obsessed with but my brain has chosen turf. Maybe it's the pain meds. I totally understand if ... [ Discover More ]

Sponsored by Ford Australia for Kidspot Voices 2014 I loved my job, that I could proudly call myself a full time blogger. My blog was a hobby that blossomed into a business, an exciting adventurous dream of a business that suited the very core of my personality. Without it I would not be the person I am today. A person capable of honest and raw self reflection with the ability to remain strong and impenetrable and yet at the same time completely vulnerable. To speak to hundreds of thousands ... Bookcase Makeover

I've been burying my mind in small tasks about the house, much easier that trying to process what's been going on health-wise and one big job on my to-do list was to buy Aidan a new bookcase. The old one he had was awkwardly shelved and didn't really maximise storage which would have been fine if the kid didn't love books so much. Luckily for us he does so I was keeping a keen eye open for a bargain that was cheap, functional and sturdy. I scored this beauty off a local facebook buy & ... [ Discover More ]

Aidan insisted on being in this week's photos and I'll be the first to admit that the kid outshone his Mumma in a big way. We had plans to go out to dinner with one of my besties who I've known since high school in the Northern Territory so it seemed like the perfect time to jump back into the challenge. Yeah, sorry about being so absent, lots going on... but anyway, enjoy the photos! Danielle New Look Polka Dot Dress - ASOS Black Stockings - Sonsee Ankle Boots - Target Earrings ... On the weekend we attended a wedding, a union between two new friends and it was very special. I meet "Meeks" at Aidan's preschool and casually built up a friendship as her daughter and my son were smitten with each other. We invited their family to Aidan's birthday party and we all just hit it off, even Steve and he's a hard nut to crack. We were excited to get to know this family better but sadly a month later they had to move for "JJ's" work. Meeks + JJ got married on Saturday and it was ... [ Discover More ]

Melnyczenko Family Christmas 2013 -113

It's the new year and I'm feeling a little nostalgic, even about moments that only occurred a week ago. As the family was getting together to celebrate Christmas I took it as the perfect opportunity to get us all dressed up, to take a new family picture and head out for a relaxed dinner. No elaborate background locations, no matching outfits, no stress, just us as we are. I asked the neighbour to take the photos and we all stood in the driveway. I'm happy to say it all worked out ... Aussie Curves – Christmas

Christmas has been and gone. We travelled up the coast to stay with my family for the holidays and it was bliss. Just Dad, Mum, my sister Stephanie, Steve, Aidan and myself. We went to the beach, the park, the shops and even went out and looked at all the pretty Christmas lights, it was just so damn lovely, the whole trip, everything. So here I am, a week later and I'm writing this post reminiscing and looking at pictures. Ever since we got home I've been cracking the sads. I just want to go ... [ Discover More ]

Melnyczenko Family Christmas 2013-1

I don't really have any more fancy parties to attend, my silly season is officially over and I literally just tied a bow on the last bit of work I had to do for the year. I'm officially done. We will be driving up the coast to celebrate Christmas with my family and I can't wait to chill out and relax. I'd be surprised if you found me in anything more than a bikini and sunscreen this week. The make up, heels and hair extensions are definitely staying at home but I will be wearing this dress on ... [ Discover More ]

The Kids Store

Aidan's been receiving quite a few kiddy fashion event invitations lately which is always a bit exciting but I've been selective about which ones we RSVP for. The latest was for the launch of The Kid Store and we couldn't pass it up, I mean even from first glance you can tell it's pretty funky. We arrived and straight away Aidan was in his element. We got to meet the lovely team behind the brand and I kind of fell for them a little more than I thought I would. You know when you meet people ... [ Discover More ]

On Monday Aidan and I were flown down to Melbourne for the day to attend the Kmart Spring/Summer Fashion Launch. It was very exciting for Aidan who was pumped about it for days, I on the other hand was worried about the logistics and possible public tantrums from over tiredness. I needn't have worried because he was an absolute superstar the whole trip, up and out of his bed at 4am and back in it by 9:30pm. By Kmart We arrived just as everyone was finding seats for the show. My baby turned four years old on Sunday and on Saturday we threw his very first proper birthday party with lots of friends, food and dinosaurs. The planning started a month before, Aidan and I would look at Pinterest together, make lists and window shop for ideas. Even Steve was actively involved in the planning and execution as he's escorted Aidan to a fair few parties whilst I've been away and considered himself a bit of an expert. It was nice, all working on the party together. I learnt to ... [ Discover More ]

Finding a black sparkly garment used to make me happy. Those were the days before body-con, sheer lace and colour blocking and all the other fabulous things about fashion that I've discovered in recent years. My wardrobe is no longer confined to black "slimming" or "flattering" dresses, I just own dresses. Printed dresses, colourful dresses, sexy dresses, I love them all! Events aren't something new for me, I attend them all the time but they're always more special when my little dude comes along. By the time he's six he'll be a professional socialite I'm sure. I was hesitant at first about mixing sticky little fingers with new season launch samples but I quickly got over it once I remembered he's a well behaved little man. My little dude loves dinosaurs. Aidan could play with them all day long. He absorbs dinosaur books, can say all the names perfectly, plays with his figurines for hours and he prefers the documentary style movies over cartoons. He loves fashion just as much, the boy is pretty fly when it comes to pulling together outfits in the morning. Washed denim jeans, woven belts, a long sleeve tee under a printed short sleeve tee and a cap tilted slightly to the side is his go-to look. I've always ... [ Discover More ]

Being away from my boys these last few weeks has been tough. Aidan amazes me everyday without fail so to be away from him and miss all that was painful. His tenderness, his imagination, his bravery, his cleverness. The trip to New York was the longest I've been away from him in his entire life so to think it wouldn't affect either of us was delusional. Aidan is a trooper. He understands I work and whilst most of the time I'm home with him, sometimes I have to work elsewhere and he's ok with ... [ Discover More ]

Stackhouse Territory

This post was brought to you by MasterCard "Would you and the boys like to come Kayaking with us on Sunday to explore the Manly area?" An email from Sonia greeted me on my return from New York. "Sure" I said. "Of Course" I said, "That would be lovely!". The whole time I'm thinking "What am I going to wear? How am I going to get up that early on a Sunday? Will my ass even fit in a kayak?" Shaking off the jet lag and the doubt I was determined to experience it. My first challenge was ... [ Discover More ]

"T'was a sweet song that filled the night, her hand pressing softly against my back as I was lulled to sleep. Cheap Easter Gift in Less than 1 Minute

easter 2

We'd spent all weekend up the coast relaxing and forgetting about the real world only to return home to a never ending to-do list. One of those things was Easter, the time of year when mothers across Australia get their craft-on and buy all the feathery, shiny and crepe-papery things from the $2 shop. I already had a game plan, I had to make some for Aidan's teachers and a few for his friends. It was so simple that I could: Make it in a Minute! Here's what you'll need*: Printed Paper ... You got to have friends

Bette Midler had it right. There's something about that special non-sexual relationship between two people that is utterly addictive. Friends can consume you, lift you higher than you've ever known, drag you down with harsh reality until your bawling and make you laugh until you wet your pants. I have friends, many actually but as I grow older I realise the relationships I have now with both men and women are vastly different to the friends of my youth. Maybe I should say pre-marriage. You see ... [ Discover More ]
