Mountain High Wedding

Last month I attended a wonderful, sentiment-filled ceremony at the stunning Mt Tomah Botanical Gardens. The location was so stunning (and only 45 minutes from home) that I plan to go back very soon whilst all the bulbs are in bloom. Luke, a man who I've known since we were in high school together, declared his love and commitment to his best friend Shaun upon a mountain top. There were tears and so many beaming smiles. The grooms asked if we could put down our phones and really be in the ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Jeans

Hello, it's been awhile! I've just been hanging out at home with my boys, riding my bike, turning 30, chilling out with Netflix and my colouring books but more about all that later. Aussie Curves is coming to an end for the year and I'm trying play catch up but with all the cold weather and general laziness I've found it hard to pull on more than a basic outfit. When I do frock up the weather/lighting is too crap to bother or I'm too busy enjoying myself to remember to take a photo and I'm not ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Double Denim

denim 1

Wearing double denim does not come naturally to me as you can see in this photo, it was the first one I'd taken and I'm clearly nervous. I needed to step out of my head, away from the mirror and see myself as the world saw me to see if it "worked". That's the thing about these outfit challenges, we're used to dressing ourselves everyday, we know what we like and what we think makes us look our best. Every week there is a theme, an opportunity to push ourselves beyond what we know, what we ... [ Discover More ]

The Art of Being Busy

danimezza plus size aussie curves glue store skater street style ootd -9

When I was young I had a plan, a wayward one but still a heart-song none the less. I had a magnetic pull in a certain direction but the older I got the more magnetic forces I seemed to come across which left my arrow spinning. I've learnt that my life isn't a journey down a long road to a final destination, it's made up of many twists and smaller scale adventures all jumbled up into one... and that's ok. I may be lazy about some things but I'm tenacious when it comes to others. I have a ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Song

My choice of song really has nothing to do with what Beyonce is alluding to in her lyrics, but the video was definitely inspiration when I pulled this outfit together. I loved the edgy 80's neon-pop urban vibe with a splash of girl power and sexual confidence. Rollerskating takes me back to Year 7 when "me and all my girls" thought we were better than sliced bread. We made up our own dance moves to "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, teased and flirted with the boys whilst wearing Roxy/Billabong tops with ... [ Discover More ]

I have a few handbags, mostly because they're all so different but one stands out from the rest, that's my Kate Spade Cobble Hill. It's special for a number of reasons: It's a quality, soft leather handbag, the only one I own. It's bright ocean blue, yet I'm able to use it all the time. It fits my lifestyle needs perfectly, great pockets. I bought it from the Kate Spade Flagship store in New York, it was an experience! I love how I can use the short carry handle or the long ... Aussie Curves – Picnic

The weather hasn't exactly been perfect for picnics around here so I'm glad I took these photos last week before Sydney was hit with all the crazy storms. Steve's in the SES so he's been busy volunteering on top of work and we've just had our first week back at school, trying to find our routines again. This week is even more hectic but with a lot of surprises (for you!!!) and fun things planned. So here's my picnic outfit, I live in cotton dresses lately and I'm making the most of the warm ... Aussie Curves – Wedding Guest

I've attended a just a handful of weddings in my life, not as many as I would have liked. The ones I did witness were humble, poetic, crafty, vulnerable, sweet occasions that really make you stop, think and be grateful for all the joy, love and friendship in our lives. It's just a shame that not everyone gets the chance to share their love in this manner but we're here to talk dresses not politics... I was sent this "Alex" dress by IGIGI and it's just magical, the perfect slip-on-and-go ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Best Bargain

I've had some brilliant bargains in my time but of all the current ones this dress takes the cake. My favourite local op shop doesn't normally stock plus size clothing or if it does it moves swiftly. I wandered in one day looking for nothing in particular and the print instantly grabbed me. The prettiest pastel shades of blue, pink, purple and taupe on a background of white without a single stain or tear. The label looks as if it was made in the late 60's or 70's with the original patent belt ... [ Discover More ]

Steve and I met on the 21st of March 2003 when I was just 17 and he was 23. We married on the 24th of March 2007 surrounded by less than fifty family and friends at the Sebel Resort in the Hawkesbury. For twelve years I've loved a man who is not only my best friend but my partner, my husband of eight years. When young people fall in love and get married most assume it wont last. Sure love can change with the years, it can falter but it can also lift you higher. I rarely talk about my ... [ Discover More ]

A surprise invitation arrived in the mail which included three passes to attend the Sydney premiere of Cinderella at the State Theatre. I'm not sure if it would even be possible to convey the level of excitement and anticipation that flooded the house. Wardrobes were raided in the hopes of finding the perfect outfits. It ended in a week-long op shopping mission to find a new suit for my little Prince Charming who was adamant on suiting-up. As you can see he was pretty happy with the ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Style Inspiration

If you haven't seen Hart of Dixie yet I recommend you binge-watch the first three seasons and play catch up on the fourth season which is currently airing in the USA. I wasn't expecting to adore it as much as I do but it sucked me in with it's southern charm, quirky fashion and loveable characters. I love Lemon's hair styles, smart tailoring and finesse for sheer clothing but at the same time I go giddy for Annabeth's statement necklaces, her bold colour choices and knack for fun patterns. ... Mexican Fiesta

Late last year I organised a little get together for a few of my friends. It gave me something to plan and look forward to as I recovered from my surgery in July. Unfortunately I never got around to sharing it here on the blog, I guess in some ways I wanted to keep parts of it to myself for awhile and lets face it I wasn't 100%. That said I did try and look the part. I was planning a fun, colourful Mexican fiesta and I fell in love with this little lemon lacy number from City Chic. I wore ... [ Discover More ]

I've started going to Yoga to work on my non-existent core muscles. Having undergone surgery twice in six months (one of them very major) I've got a long road ahead of me in terms of recovery but I'm getting there. Listening to my body, taking it easy and doing what's truly good for me. Generally exercise is pretty gentle. Short walks with Charlie around my neighbourhood and core mat work in my lounge room. I've been practicing yoga for awhile using an app on my iPhone but I wanted help with my ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Stripes

I love patterns. I tend to buy patterned clothing and home wares a lot, I guess they just make me happy. That said I generally stick to geometrics and polka dots, I don't have that many stripes. In fact Jo from iCurvy gave me this dress recently and I just adore it. I mean the cut is perfect for my body shape and I really like the staggered and varied stripes, I think they really make the dress. I teamed it with some simple heeled sandals and accessories in my favourite 'pop' colour, neon ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Pattern Clash

Pattern Clash isn't for the faint hearted and even the most experienced or experimental fashion blogger can be tested. It's not a favourite theme among many but it's one I'm determined to include every year because it's one of the strongest examples of what this challenge is... a challenge. I want people to think about how and why they dress the way they do, then question those actions and their motives. Sometimes you just have to bend or break a few rules to showcase who you are as an ... [ Discover More ]

FAMILY 2014 sml-3

I love my family. We're outwardly confident, emotional, stubborn, loyal and loving. I have more relations outside of this group but at the end of the day these are the ones who really know me, they're my people: Mum, Dad, my sister and my boys. Sometimes I wish we weren't so insular, that there were more bums on seats around the table at gatherings, that we weren't so co-dependant and self sufficient but then again I'm not sure I'd really have had it any other way. This is what I know, who I ... [ Discover More ]

You know me, I love my swimwear. If I could wear it all year round, chasing the summer season across the globe I'd be a very happy Danielle. Just like I was when I received two pieces from the current SS14 Robyn Lawley Swimwear Collection, a lovely surprise gift that I couldn't wait to get on. They got my colours spot on, fresh mint/aqua and a sprinkle of pixelated rainbows finished with rose gold hardware. I'll admit, it's felt weird the last few months, like something was missing. I knew participating in the third year of Aussie Curves wasn't going to be easy due to my health issues but I also didn't think it was going to be this hard. My enthusiasm for the project, if I'm truly honest, has waned and I think it's down to the accompanying Facebook group. It takes up a lot of time, focus and energy despite recruiting a merry band of women to help with the work load. It's not that the passion or belief in Aussie Curves has diminished, it's just a lack of physical and mental ... [ Discover More ]

I love attending events, I'm a social butterfly at heart and I love nothing more than frocking up and mingling. When the invitation from Nespresso arrived I knew straight away that it was going to be special and I wasn't disappointed. I tend not to blog about PR events anymore and simply take on the knowledge, disperse what I've learnt when it's personally applicable and just enjoy them for what they are. This one I felt I had to share for a multitude of reasons mainly because I was made to ... [ Discover More ]

On the Aussie Curves Facebook Group get a lot of questions about what to wear to a job interview so I decided we should include it in the challenge this year as an easy reference point for people to get a lot of different examples of interview attire. You're probably thinking "...what? You can't wear that to an interview!!!" but in all seriousness this is what I would wear personally. Why? Well for the kind of work I do it's not about corporate attire and "fitting in" I need to show off my ... [ Discover More ]

This is generally how you will find me most days of the week. I wear relaxed loose-fitting clothing, I'm bare faced and my hair in usually in a messy up-do. This is just how I roll at the moment. For the past few months I've been really unwell but by the same token I've been the healthiest I've been in years. If you're confused you can imagine how I'm feeling, everyday is a roller coaster. Did you know SS14/15 is on the horizon and that means the annual "Body Issue" magazines will be making their way to shelves. Some covers slamming celebs for the flip from "fab to flab" and others celebrating the diversity of race, size and age. Morning television shows will be inundated with "body experts", health advisors, diet gurus, swimwear models and of course there will be controversy over runway models. Timing is everything and lately I've been feeling out of sync. I'm not myself but at the same time I feel like I'm getting to know a few inner truths. Over the last six months I wrote posts trying to explain what would be happening so you would have some kind of understanding but I guess I also wrote them for myself. Before I was wading around in uncharted waters, now I'm up to my neck. Questions have been answered only to raise more questions, bigger questions each one making me want to retreat ...
