Big School

Danimezza Aidan First Day of School 2015-1

Today is Aidan's first day of Primary School, Kindergarten to be exact. I sat at the end of his bed late last night after I'd laid out his uniform, ready for the next day and just watched him sleep. So sweet and warm in a bed that seems to shrink with each day. When did he stop being so tiny? I know he'll still need me, just in different ways. I know that he'll always be my little boy even when he has his own mortgage. This is just one of those days, those milestones that once-upon-a-time I ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Pattern Clash

Pattern Clash isn't for the faint hearted and even the most experienced or experimental fashion blogger can be tested. It's not a favourite theme among many but it's one I'm determined to include every year because it's one of the strongest examples of what this challenge is... a challenge. I want people to think about how and why they dress the way they do, then question those actions and their motives. Sometimes you just have to bend or break a few rules to showcase who you are as an ... [ Discover More ]

Recovery Mode

I've been stuck in bed for weeks but I've found every distraction possible it seems to avoid writing this post, obviously that is until now. I guess there are a few reasons why I'm hesitant to write about my experience: It's a story filled with gore, seriously not pretty. I'm only midway through the first phase of recovery and my body is still settling. I'm sick of thinking about my vagina but that said... ... I'm considering turning my gynaecological adventures into a book. All ... [ Discover More ]

danimezza xmas 9

Christmas this year has been going strong since November which is when I started putting up the decorations. Aidan's excitement was infectious and let's face it, it was a beautiful distraction during a difficult time. I revamped a tired old wreath (using glitter and metallic spray paint) that I found in an op shop and gave it to Monica as she'd never had a wreath of her own and I wanted her to have one that was totally unique. She was close to tears when she discovered it, hanging proudly on her ... [ Discover More ]

Family Portrait 2014

FAMILY 2014 sml-3

I love my family. We're outwardly confident, emotional, stubborn, loyal and loving. I have more relations outside of this group but at the end of the day these are the ones who really know me, they're my people: Mum, Dad, my sister and my boys. Sometimes I wish we weren't so insular, that there were more bums on seats around the table at gatherings, that we weren't so co-dependant and self sufficient but then again I'm not sure I'd really have had it any other way. This is what I know, who I ... [ Discover More ]

Everything Must Go

Do you remember what it was like when you got your first period?  Where you were, how old you were or how you felt? Do you remember the first time you tried to use a tampon or that time you had to ask a stranger if they had a spare one in their purse. Maybe you're even old enough to remember your very last period, the one you didn't think was your last until it was. My last period was on the 20th November 2014, it lasted seven days and the whole experience was torture. It arrived at 2pm (5 days ... [ Discover More ]

60 Things I Adore

This post is sponsored by Active Skin I'm lucky enough to get the opportunity to try some pretty cool things (across all budgets) and this year was no exception so I thought I'd share with you a pretty intense list of things that I adore. Seriously, it took days and many edits to come up with this list and I could have added more. Some I've discovered and bought myself, others have been gifted by brands (and bought again myself) and there are also things I aspire to own... enjoy! The ... [ Discover More ]

Aussie Curves – Favourite Colour

Danimezza Aussie Curves Plus Size Fashion Blogger Sydney Australia Robyn Lawley Swimwear 2014 FAVOURITE COLOUR-7

You know me, I love my swimwear. If I could wear it all year round, chasing the summer season across the globe I'd be a very happy Danielle. Just like I was when I received two pieces from the current SS14 Robyn Lawley Swimwear Collection, a lovely surprise gift that I couldn't wait to get on. They got my colours spot on, fresh mint/aqua and a sprinkle of pixelated rainbows finished with rose gold hardware. I'll admit, it's felt weird the last few months, like something was missing. From June ... [ Discover More ]

I knew participating in the third year of Aussie Curves wasn't going to be easy due to my health issues but I also didn't think it was going to be this hard. My enthusiasm for the project, if I'm truly honest, has waned and I think it's down to the accompanying Facebook group. It takes up a lot of time, focus and energy despite recruiting a merry band of women to help with the work load. It's not that the passion or belief in Aussie Curves has diminished, it's just a lack of physical and mental ... [ Discover More ]

Nespresso Danimezza Event 5

I love attending events, I'm a social butterfly at heart and I love nothing more than frocking up and mingling. When the invitation from Nespresso arrived I knew straight away that it was going to be special and I wasn't disappointed. I tend not to blog about PR events anymore and simply take on the knowledge, disperse what I've learnt when it's personally applicable and just enjoy them for what they are. This one I felt I had to share for a multitude of reasons mainly because I was made to ... [ Discover More ]

I'm all about packet mixes and Betty Crocker has my heart (not to mention a designated area in my pantry) I just find them so simple and perfect every time meaning I can experiment more with the toppings. You pay a bit more but you know what you're going to get, kind of like Nespresso. When they sent me their new limited edition "Cubania" Grand Cru to play with in the kitchen I thought I'd keep things easy and fun! Cupcakes Betty Crocker Vanilla Cake Mix, follow instructions on ... My Dad is driven, a high achiever, a forward-planner, a charmer and a many-spinning-plates kind of man. My Mum is laid back, patient, organised and a in-the-now sort of lady. In their case opposites definitely attract and it's worked well for them and as a result I am very much a combination of their personal traits. Dad is a man with a plan and when he sets his mind to something he achieves it, he's very inspiring. Whenever Dad was juggling too many projects Mum was always there to handle what ... Time Off

I took some time off. I didn't want to think about you and your expectations, your questions, your problems or your blessings. I was really really selfish, bunkered down and gave myself space to process my own expectations, questions, problems and blessings. Is there such a thing as a 6-week mental health break? If not I just created one. It didn't start out that way, I had every intention to keep going like I was until suddenly I missed a day, then the next and suddenly a week flew by and then ...           ... that's where my mind's at. I've tried writing, I don't know how many times I've opened the dashboard only to stare and the blinding white screen. My mouth goes dry, my hands freeze and the words don't come out. I close the laptop and open it again hoping that somewhere in that moment I'll find the words I was trying to grasp. It happened again and again and again. Weeks have gone by, content piling up, photos lay dormant in my hard drive and ... [ Discover More ]

House Tour – Lounge Room

Danimezza House Tour Lounge Room-9

I shared this photo online earlier this week and I just wanted to say thank you for the huge response! It's been awhile since I got my proper camera out and took some photos just for the love of it. Steve takes my outfit photos and I've been lazy and using my iPhone often, I'll try to do better but in the meantime enjoy peeking into one of my most used spaces. In case you're wondering... that's my spot. I will forever be cursed with custard coloured walls. Why people think tan/beige/custard ... [ Discover More ]

House Tour – Aidan’s Room

Danimezza House Tour Aidans Bedroom-7

I am blessed to have a son. A son who is undoubtedly as colourful and conversational as his mother and as cheeky and practical as his father. I've also shared his room on the blog in the past (here, here and here) but for the first time it's not just me doing the styling, Aidan's getting in on the action too. As he's at the wise old age of five now he considers himself a bit of an expert when it comes to knowing what he likes and doesn't like. Dinosaurs, stars and rainbows are at the very top of ... Danimezza House Tour Main Bedroom-4

It's been just over three months since we moved into "Old Faithful", a little weather board cottage full of charm and plenty of good juju. I remember walking through the empty house prior to signing the contract and within an instant I could visually place our belongings. Our little family seemed to fit perfectly within the walls and after just a couple of weeks it was as if we'd always lived there. I wasn't sure if I would share too many photos but I just couldn't help myself. I love looking ... [ Discover More ]

Bright Darkness

The beautiful clock ticks loudly within the quiet walls of early dawn. The stillness overrides my capacity for sleep, unwavering weakness. My body aches for reprieve, my bones for slumber.   Eyes wired, dry and hazy yet unwilling to close. Fizzling memories tactile, embedded for eternity. A dull heavy force I feel the need to push through, my shoulders raw.   Some nights I wonder about the stars, still, against our axis. Time spinning, I sit ... [ Discover More ]

Greener Pastures

I have a secret confession, something I've been working on for months and somehow even managed to hide from instagram. Something I found incredibly hard to do I might add although a few hints crept through... I'm currently obsessed with landscaping, grass to be exact. I drive by golf courses and I'm literally green with envy. I know it's weird especially as there are so many other things I could be obsessed with but my brain has chosen turf. Maybe it's the pain meds. I totally understand if ... [ Discover More ]

I had my first pap smear when I was 17 and to this day I'm so grateful I didn't put it off as my results came back abnormal. I had CIN3 and had to undergo biopsies and treatments for several years, all at such a young age but I've had the all clear for 6 years now and I keep regular appointments to stay on top of it. I've written about it in the past but I thought it was worthwhile bringing up again. My story is very similar to Lucy's except that I was 17 at the time. My cervix had to be ... [ Discover More ]

Sponsored by Ford Australia for Kidspot Voices 2014 I loved my job, that I could proudly call myself a full time blogger. My blog was a hobby that blossomed into a business, an exciting adventurous dream of a business that suited the very core of my personality. Without it I would not be the person I am today. On the Aussie Curves Facebook Group get a lot of questions about what to wear to a job interview so I decided we should include it in the challenge this year as an easy reference point for people to get a lot of different examples of interview attire. You're probably thinking "...what? You can't wear that to an interview!!!" but in all seriousness this is what I would wear personally. Why? Well for the kind of work I do it's not about corporate attire and "fitting in" I need to show off my ... [ Discover More ]

This is generally how you will find me most days of the week. I wear relaxed loose-fitting clothing, I'm bare faced and my hair in usually in a messy up-do. This is just how I roll at the moment. For the past few months I've been really unwell but by the same token I've been the healthiest I've been in years. If you're confused you can imagine how I'm feeling, everyday is a roller coaster. Did you know SS14/15 is on the horizon and that means the annual "Body Issue" magazines will be making their way to shelves. Some covers slamming celebs for the flip from "fab to flab" and others celebrating the diversity of race, size and age. Morning television shows will be inundated with "body experts", health advisors, diet gurus, swimwear models and of course there will be controversy over runway models. Ta-da!!! I'm really excited about this year, so many new people are joining in either by blogging, instagraming (using #AussieCurves or #AussieFitCurves) or within the safe confines of the private Aussie Curves facebook group.
